Scantool for 944 S2 ?
#3
factory tuning ive seen at the dealer for these cars involved a large Sun Diagnostic scanner that reads from the CO testpipe and something about the plug on the drivers side wheel well. I dont think there is anything like OBD2 or anything.

The Hammer...
"The Bosch Hammer, aka KTS-300, is the Factory-approved scan tool used by
Porsche Dealers (and others) to read DTC's and status codes in your car's ECU."
- Some random website...
Anyways it doesn't do to much and really isn't worth it on the S2.

As far as I know, our Motronic systems are pre-OBD, so the fault code readers used on new cars will not work. The first Porsche with OBD II was the 1996 993 (I think). I once saw something called a Break-Out box that went beween the DME computer and the cable that plugs into it. It allowed you to look at individual signals. I only saw it once when trolling the Web. There is a connector inside the engine compartment of my 951, but it only for a limited set of faults of the boost controller.

I have a JDS Spanner tool that works on S2's, 968's etc. The only thing it doesn't do it reset the airbag light on 968's. It works well for what the S2 diagnostics offered, but I wouldn't get too worked up over it one way or another, it's not going to be "the" tool that is your salvation when working on your car, imo. Its nice that it gives you a confirmation of certain issues, but you will still need the typical troubleshooting/mechanical knowledge (and the FSM!) to get anywhere working on these cars.
