Default oprv question.....real fast!

I'm starting to think I worry to much about this damn car. I love working on it, and love looking at it....I just plain love it, and have yet to drive it!!

OK, I think this is my final question before I FINALLY get it running for the weekend!!!!

I have an 85.5 N/A car...the oil pressure relief valve is the 3 piece. The pic is not my pic, but it shows what I have.

My question....is there anything else that should be on this oprv before it goes back in? The umm, plunger end (bottom) has a groove that looks like it should have an o-ring on it....should it? Mine didn't come out with one, and there isn't one in this pic. Are there really only 3 pieces? (well, 4 with the metal sealing ring) Or, is there another o-ring that should be on the plunger? Any other misc. pieces that might go on?

Sorry....worry wart!!!
Mark

i dont think that has an o-ring- the one piece does for the s2 and later cars but the three piece doesnt.

yeah the updated one piece design for the 86 and the standard one piece 87+ all have a seal on the bottom or tip of the OPRV but the 86 unit is just what you have there. THe bottom plunger actually is what moves up and down and the early block has a sleeve pressed in for that to slide in. This is why you have to align the housing properly but frankly i think unless you have the housing wayyy off the regulator usually lines up no problems.

^ what Dan said. No o-rings.

Make sure the little piston and bore it goes into is nice and smooth, or it might bind up..that's when bad things happen.

Yeah, I have the alignment tool....the little groove on the plunger was just making me think "o-ring?".. I got it now!

Thanks for the help....again!!
