Default How to make the exhaust sound more "inspiring."

I have to confess that as much as I love to drive my 944 (1988, n/a), the exhaust note is uninspired, to put it mildly. Spinning it to redline is more of a necessity than a thrill. Maybe it's an overly muffled induction system, and maybe it's the exhaust. And maybe it's just a big, fat 8 valve 4 cylinder engine.

Has anyone found a combo that sings?

That's odd, my '87 NA sets off car alarms. Literally.

On my 1988 924S in addition to the muffler there is a small resonator.
The resonator is absent on the 1987 924S and has a very noticable-lot loud-distinct growl/heavy purr sound. If you have the setup with the resonator-cut it out and see what it sounds like. YMMV

I'm pleased with my '86 NA stock exhaust sound.

There is a perfect speed around 90-95 MPH where it just pulses. It almost sounds like the warp engines on Star Trek.

"Nothin' could be finer than to be in Carolina" in the 944 at that perfect speed.

I know what you mean. After my drive in a Cayman on Sunday, the 944's sound is nothing too exciting...

I am happy with my Magnaflow highflow cat/exhaust (since added a MSDS set of headers and some new Konis in back ).

I suppose you would need at least 2x the cylinders for it to be truly inspiring.

My old n/a. One with a 2.5'' cat-back and one with the same cat-back aswell as a 2.5'' test pipe.

With the full test pipe it was LOUD as hell. Not a streetable setup unless you want everyone looking at you.

I agree. THAT is a sound that would make we want to rev! What Magnaflow part did you use? If/when I get my historic registration, I may also delete my cat.
