Default stiff shifter

I did a search but couldn't come up with anything for this.

Today on the way to work the shifter on my 944 NA got very stiff. it still shifts into gear fine and drives fine, but the throws are very stiff. Do the linkages need greased or do you think that its a bigger problem?

Try bleeding the clutch.

Do you think that would make the throws stiff? Explain please, Sorry kind of a noob when it comes to transaxels and clutches.

Think of it as maybe the clutch isn't disengaging all the way.
Does it shift much smoother if you pump the clutch then shift?

Assuming from your avatar, the car in question is a normally aspirated 944. If this is the case and this is the original rubber center clutch you may be looking at time for replacement. The rubber centers will deteriorate and make shifting very difficult.
That is one possibility.
The other possibility is a broken or cracked clutch release fork. This will cause shifting to be difficult when under an acceleration load. When you are sitting still with the clutch pressed in, can you run through the gears with little or no difficulty? But under load shifting is stiff.
I think you may have larger issues than what a clutch bleed will solve.
Good luck.

just replaced the clutch with an aftermarket, so its not the rubber center, and it is stiff whether there is a load on the car or not even with the it off

thanks

check the linkage that bolts to the drivers side of the transaxle for binding. if you've had the trans apart recently, something may have loosened up if you did not use locktite.

Well i finally got a chance to look at my problem and it seems to be the C clip that holds the shift rod to the shifter. sprayed it with some lithium grease and it freed right up. Thank you for all of the suggestions.
