Smile 9 years owning late 944s and still discovering features.

Like how to turn the engine compartment courtesy light on.

Was poking around in the engine compartment yesterday in the 951 and accidentally flipped the turn signal stalk upwards.
When I went back to the engine compartment, low and behold, the courtesy light in the hood was on!

Not sure how many of you know this but apparently, this is the way to turn the courtesy light on with the headlights completely off.
I've had a 944 since 1994 and a late model since 1999 but keep finding new features on these cars.

P.S. This is not a RoW thing -checked it on my S2 and it works the same way: lights off, hood open, turn signal up, courtesy light on!

You may need to pull the bulb out and wipe the contact clean, or push it in and out a bit, but it works!

Another feature i noticed after fixing some nagging issues with my 951, the headlight switch on late interior cars glows green, i guess the bulb on my n/a was burned out for the past 4 years!

Being the **** retentive people my dad and I are, we wanted every single thing to work on the car. This drove us crazy for a day or two. We swapped bulbs, cleaned contacts, everything. I even pulled the alarm switch for the hood (that I initially thought was to turn the courtesy light on. It's directly below the courtesy light on the driver side) and cleaned it. Then I realized that was for the alarm system.

Finally, we flipped the parking lights on, and the bulb flashed. We wiggled it a bit, and presto...it turned on!

Yes, but it will also work by just popping the hood and turning the turn signal stalk up one notch with the parking lights off.

I found this handy for quick checks in the engine compartment.

Yea, but doesn't your turn signal come on? lol

Or is this with car off, key OUT, that you're putting the stalk up?

With the key out. Just open the door, pop the hood, pull the stalk up a notch, and the courtesy light turns on. Pretty neat.

If you turn the car off with a turn signal on, the parking lights stay on. They don't go on if you hit the blinker stalk with the car off?

The "fixed blinker" feature is to warn passing traffic when you park overnight on narrow European streets. The engine courtesy light only comes on with the turn signal in the "right" position. Blinker light comes on as well, but that's beside the point.

On early cars, not sure aobut lates, when you turn the left turn signal on with the car off no key in it, all the sidemarkers come one.

I would think its the opposite way for where they drive on the wrong side of the street....turnsignal stalk down instead of up = courtesy light on? haha.
