autocross tires

Have you considered the Bridgestone RE-01R?
I run 205/55 and 225/50 on my turbo, overall I've been happy with them. I have come to expect reduced grip when the tire is cold - must be careful with the GO pedal.
Don't be concerned with the width, they are rather wide for a 205 and 225.
I use mine for street/autox/DE with no problems.
Tire rack has these on sale at the moment- http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....Potenza+RE-01R

Here's some slightly used Hoosiers if you want them.

If you're thinking non-R compound, take a good look at the Hankook Ventus RS2 Z212. It comes in the right sizes and is very comparable to the Falken Azenis 615.

For full autocross Hoosier A6 are the best, but pricey. Kumho 710 or shaved V700 work well also. If looking for a tire to drive to events on, the RE01R works great.
I have no experience with Hankook or Toyo.

I had proxes 4 on my 325Ci...still do actually. I've done some circuitcross type stuff (higher speed autocross on small road courses) and they worked well as long as you bled off the pressure when you needed to. They're good street tires too, and give a good range of audio feedback. Only complaint is that the sidewalls weren't that rigid, so I lost some responsiveness.
They're not real high-performance, but especially if you can get a discount I would say they are worth buying for a DD.

Sorry to interject a related question, but....
How much of a difference will Hoosier autox compound and race compound make? I figure it's the heat up time... but if I only have the race compound, will it still perform better than a street tire in autox?

On a 60-second course, I'd say ANY R-compound is ~2 seconds quicker than ANY street tire, and "Autocross" tires are about 2 seconds quicker again than non-autocross r-compounds.
