my 86 951's cruise is confusing me. under say...70, i set it, and it acts like the car is floored most of the time. then every once in a while it will work fine. above 70, it works like it should every time. what would cause it's patchy performance below 70, but allow it to be fine above? thanks

The cable from the stepper motor to the throttle butterfly on the right hand back of the engine bay was very tight on mine and produced a similar scenario.... I adjusted it off and it worked ok at all speeds. If it is too loose the stepper motor will rattle as it reaches the end of its travel.......! Hope this helps...!

Probably faulty solder joints in the cc control unit located on the left footwell above the hood release.
Do a search...

If the cable seems fine I'd second the solder joints. I'll save you the search and tell you to remove the cruise control brain (it's a videocassette size silver box by the driver's knee.) If you're good with solder, re-do all the joints yourself, or take it to a TV shop and have them re-do them. My TV guy said they looked OK, but when he touched them with the iron, they bubbled, indicating a poor solder joint from the factory.

$25 at the TV shop and mine is all good. My symptoms were that it wouldn't hold a speed at all, but it would accellerate with the cruise stalk.
