Default KYB?

Does anyone have any expierience with KYB shocks? It says it is not compatible with the turbo models although i have an 86 NA with the sport suspension package, which i beleive is the 944 turbo suspension which means it wont fit right? All information is appreciated!!! Thanks!!

I have KYB front inserts on the 944. They feel fine! Definitely, 100% better than the old broken inserts it had before.

People will tell you they're not as good as OEM but, A: they are so much cheaper than OEM, and B: they are so much better than the broken junk you probably have on there now. And they feel just fine.

I've had them on my 1983. They're nice at first but the effect doesn't last very long. Especially the rears. YMMV

Through no real planning on my part, I often end up with KYBs on most of my cars for non-performance applications. They have always served me well as OE-style replacements, in terms of ride, handling and longevity. No 944 experience, tho.

Fine for street driving and cheap, but not a performance upgrade.

Buy SPAX PSX krypton gas dampers instead. they have ok price and you can adjust stiffness on all 4 of them in less than 5 min. (you don't have to take apart your car or even lift it to adjust stiffness)

I got all 4 new from ebay and they are without a doubt better than new koni items. there I said it.

I looked at these some time ago. For some reason Spax say they fit Porsche 944 (all models excl. S2 & Turbo) 81-8/84. Could not figure out what changes happened in 8/84 to stop these fitting any early offset to 86. Anyone know?

they fit in the type of damper that is put together with a big nut. you can not take the later dampers apart without cutting them.

the nuts are visible on this pic, they are in bottom left corner.

and the finished items

Where on the assembly is the "big nut" when everything is together? Are the Spax pcs available in the US?

My 86 has stock rebuildable dampers, so why do they say they will only fit to 8/84? If that is the only reason then they should fit any early offset na to 86, correct?

I've never had a problem with KYB shocks and have even autocrossed on them without any complaints.

My PO gave me new KYB's when I bought the car and I've used them autoX'ing ever since and haven't had a problem, They're still going strong. I'm planning on doing a spec 944 suspension in the next few months so they'll go, but for the money they're not bad.

my car is 85.5, has early offset like yors and they fit with no problem whatsoever. I was worried by that statment on their page too since I saw it after I placed bid on these, but fortunately it's 100% fit. and it's great fun to play with endless stiffness setup combinations

I can't figure out why koni couldn't use the same solution for back damper stiffness setting. taking the dampers off the car for every setting is very stupid solution.

that 8/84 statement is quite weird. what exactly changed at that time? I tought the major 944 difference was made on 85.5 and suspension difference even later.

someone should email them and ask about that.
