Default Ebay Grrrr.... should I force him to pay for my 951?

Ok... I had my 86 951 up on ebay....
before the auction was supposed to end (about 1/2 hour) somebody "accidently" hit the buy it now button.... GRRRRRRRRRRRR....

What should I do...
I mean I really NEED to sell the car and he just burned my chance for the third time....
I had bids around 2300 and the reserve was met.....
this guy claims he wanted to place a bid at 2499.99 and hit the buy it now for 3500.....

Since the reserve was met I know the car was going to sell for something....
I really hate the idea of not knowing how high it would have sold for??
His bid was $1K less than the buy it now and I will never know if it would have made it that high or if it might have gone higher.......

Suggestions???
Should I just relist and take a chance that the car will sell for less???
Thanks to my mistake and 2 bidders mistakes this will be the third time this car is listed....

If I don't get one of my cars sold soon I will have to take a huge loss and dump one for next to nothing.....

any advice (including I should take the money and run) would be helpfull....
I am sooooo pissed......
His ebay name is PlanetPorsche...
So any comments about if this is a good guy and probably made a genuine mistake would be cool too... Unless you all know he is a clown and does this crap a lot....

So what would you do????
Assuming you kinda NEED to sell the car...
Thanks JC

Doesn't the buy it now selection require a confirmation? That seems pretty fishy...

Yeah I think so.....
He just emailed me and wants to know if his shipping company can pick it up... He said he will pay for it first....
He would like me to deliver it to the local autoauction down here so he can have his Co. pick it up....

I am so confused... he seems legit in his email but your right... I am a little scared...

The buy it now feature doesn't work after your first bid is made, or if the reserve is met: "The Buy It Now price disappears after the first bid is placed, or if you've placed a reserve price and it's met, except for some categories where the Buy It Now price is available for a longer time."

Try this link, you can get a refund for the listing: http://pages.ebay.com/help/tp/unpaid-item-process.html

Or if you're really desperate to sell, take the $2499.99. Good luck!

send a second chance offer to the next highest bidder, it will let them buy the car for their highest bid...worked for me once

Does he mean for the BIN amount or the amount he "meant" to enter? If he is going to give you the 3500 before its picked up (make sure the funds check out!) then you might just be getting want you want out of it.

Is it still Bill Smith that owns Planet Porsche in Pennsylvania? I recall years ago when I bought a sway bar for my 944 as he was running a Porsche recycling company. I noticed that he some a couple of brand new 944 wiring harness just recently.

Yeah I think that is him...
I went to his website and it looks legit...

Thanks for the advice... I will have him call me and after I talk with him I will decide what to do...

Yeah, all bids require a confirmation - even a normal one.

After you put in an amount on the listing page (or hit BIN), you get taken to another page that says something like, "You are about to bid $xxxx for this item. Your bid is a binding contract, blah blah blah" and you have to hit another "continue" or "bid" button, or something like that.

Fishy as hell, I'd want to make sure the number you're calling matches up with where the place is supposed to be, maybe use information or a web-based phone book to find the phone number for the place (or match up the phone number to the website) and make sure of the funds.

Meet in the middle see if he will do 2900 for the car otherwise file for a unpaid bidder claim. Seems like a honest mistake. Why would he hit the buy it now when the reserve was met at a much lower price and it was so close to ending?

What I think is going on is that the buyer wanted the car right? Ok like you said the reserve was already met. Most of the bids come in the last 2 to 3 minutes of the auction. The buyer knew that he would be out bid so he hit the buy it now to end the auction ealry and try and buy your car for 2500. Seems like a nice little scam to me.

262 feedback and he messed up the BIN? Was there a turnip truck in the background of one or your photos?
