Very nice looking car, sounds like a good deal. Like other have said ask for the maintenance records (T'belts, clutch, and maybe even headgasket)

Full leather interior is a really rare option that is certainly valuable. The turbo badge in the center of the rear could mean the car has been rear ended and repair or it could just be personal tastes but might want to ask.

Good luck

I didn't know that the BBS wheels came in the late offset, learned something new and I just woke up! Anyway, maybe I'm biased, the the wheels are great, and if the car is LSD and paint matches the codes, I'd say it's worth 8k or so as long as it's not too abused underneath. Don't let a great paint job blind you from seeing the whole picture.

Either the old badge fell off, or was removed whilst painting the car.

I do not like the wheels...never have liked them. Its just my preference tho.

Check the options sticker in the rear hatch...that will tell you alot about the car.

+1 on checking the headlight rod for overspray...also carefully look at the rubber trim, wheel wells, pull the rear carpet (that will tell you if a new rear section was welded in, re-badge location), pop the lights up as lots of bodyshops are too lazy to properly remove the headlights and black plastic rings when repainting too...the list could go on.

Looks good otherwise.

Well I just got off the phone with him. Doesn't have the maintenance records, and doesn't know why the badge is in the middle. He tried to flip it around and asked if I was sure that they didn't come like that. So suddenly huge red flags are going up. And at $300 a ticket to go fly to see it, I'm thinking maybe I should pass on this one. *sigh* Someday I'll get another one!

I don't think full leather is such an rare option.

2 of my cars has full leather option, one is biege and the other are burgundy sport seats.

As in dash, console, and door panels.

I'm really torn about this car. On one hand it looks gorgeous. But the very pictures that make me love it, also have caused me to question if it legit or not. And for that kind of money...

I hate going back and forth like this.

I realize you don't want anyone to ****** it from you, but if you post the location I am sure one of us would go look at it for you and give you an idea of what it looks like in person.

Yeah... not having the maint records is a problem... Have one of the guys go look at for you!!
My 87 951 has about 132K miles but has records for $11k worth of work and upgrades in the last year...
I think the records make a huge difference...
Also get some shots from the engine bay and under the rear...
Is the belly pan still in place?
Does it have LSD?
just my 2c JC

No records=red flag. I sold my very clean 86 8 months ago for 8,000.00 it had 116K, Fuchs, LSD and over 20K in parts/service records. If the guy didn't know where the badge was supposed to be located, he doesn't know 951s at all. I would pass as it could need a quick 5K in work.

Well I'm letting this one go. To many questions, and no answers. Despite looking great, the risk of paying that much for a car with a shady past...no thanks. Thanks for all the help though Rennlist!

The door panels have leather on the lower section, the lower portion of the dash is real leather and the center console and cassette cover will be leather. Also the backs of the seats should be real leather. Looks from the pictures that they are. I would buy that car for that reason alone and get some different wheels on it

well, now you know of 3 with the tan (actually linen) full leather option. Don't have a pic of the seats, but they are leather and I would say 7 out of 10. The driver's side bolster is worn out a little.

I bought my car with 87k for $7000. It's an '88 and has proven to be an excellent car. I have no history on the car, but you can tell a lot with a visual inspection. I took a chance and got lucky. I will do a lot of PM stuff this summer including belts and fluids. The car is in hybernation 'til then.

Nice looking car but I think I created a little confusion with the stuff on full leather. While you have a very nice looking interior it is not a full leather interior. Let me see if with some pictures I can set the record straight. Apparently this option is so rare that no one knows about it

Please correct me if I am off on any of these statements but I would prefer if you can show a picture to prove what you are saying.

Lets see - First off all 944s with the late interior(1985.5 and newer) came with the following items in real leather - steering wheel, shifter and parking brake. Everything else - dash/center console/headliner/front and rear door panels/a-arm covers is fake leather. Now the seats are a different case - most of the 944s from these years came with seats with full leather in the front and fake leather in the back. Of course some seats were script seats in cloth and I have seen some seats that were better optioned - 8 way power/heated/sport seats that were full leather. Also - some of the rarer colored seats like can can red - the entire front and back seats are full leather.

Keep in mind that a previous owner of your car may have changed some things around.

Now - the full leather option. If a 944 came with full leather then the center console is real leather and has stiching along the edge and the cassette storage lid is also real leather. The lower portion of the dash is full leather and has stiching on each corner and the glovebox will have a stiching line up each edge. The lower section of both door panels is full leather and the armrests are full leather - there is a line of stiching along the edge. The upper and lower section of the rear seats are full leather and the front seats have leather on the rear side. Everything else on the full leather cars will be fake leather - headliner, a-arm covers, top of dash, top of door panels and rear area side trim.

The only cars in existance that I know of with full leather is the 944S that Ian had here in Atlanta and sold, the car in this ad, a guards red late turbo that I looked at for sale here in Atlanta a long time ago and a NA that a fellow converted to a race car over on Pelican. I have never seen a 10 speaker interior in real factory leather and have never see any other color than tan or black.

Here are some pics illustrating up close these panels.
