id love to see that, maybe try it someday but would rather race in a trashed 924 for the little bit of weight advantage and theyre cheap if it dies
WRC limits to 2.0L...hmmmmm.....perfect for a 931

I can see it now. Someone launching a 924 off a jump...O god.
But why destroy a 944? If you're going to destroy something, destroy something worth destroying.
I.E...a 928!

wasn't aware WRC had a limit of 2.0. There are other rally organizations that don't have that limit. You know, like that really popular Americas Rally.
agree with the 924 vs. 944 comment.
and cool it with the 928 hating. They rock IMNSHO.

I have a 924S I am stripping down to race and was wondering the same thing-- what would it take to make it a rally car? Roll cage of course. Doing the Autocross suspension thing in reverse? Adjusting torsion bars for more height should work better than on those Baja bugs you see with the wheels bent in. How would you raise the front?

To raise the front, I think you'd be able to have a machine shop fab up some spacers to go between the top of the strut and the strut mounting point on the body. I'd probably have them made out of very hard rubber instead for ride reasons.
You could easily lift a 944 2 inches and fit bigger tires. The spacer idea is used on 99-04 Tacomas, as I have installed a lift like this on my friends Taco. It gave gim 2" lift, and allowed 34" Terra grapplers to fit.

I'd recommend anyone seriously considering such an idea to look at SCCA Rallycross first... think autox, but on dirt - merging Club Rally and Solo (aka autox)!
I was actually talking with my wife today about maybe letting her rallycross my racecar, but it's so low and stiff it probably wouldn't be a good choice, despite the race motor and LSD. And the Dirt Stocker tires we already have.
But I'd be a whole lot less worried about it going over on a rutted course than her WRX!

raising the front end would be one thing. Along with that you'd need more travel. I think you'd blow out the stock struts in a hurry. How much room is there above the top of the strut and the hood?
The more I think about it, the more I think a 924 would be a real sleeper for something like this. Got to be better than a Volvo 240.
So when I hit the lottery, look for a 924 out there on the rally circuit

I have a poster of a 924S and a Volvo 242 about 3 ft in the air and the volvo headlight is busted and the 924's front is all bashed up. Its amazing to say the least! I found it at a garage sale and have never seen anything like it. (Note, its just a picture no text or anything else)
