Of all the things I would like to be posting about right now, this is unfortunatly what's most important. First of all, no I did not lock my keys in my car.
It was about 5 degrees the other day and I went outside to get something out of the car. I leave it unlocked because of the extreme cold, but when I pulled the door handle, it felt like it broke or disconnected itself from the linkage. Then I tried the hatch. That also broke/and or disconnected
. And my keys don't open the pass. door. So my only option is to unlock the passanger door with no keys from the outside. So has anyone done this? I've had the door panels off before but had no need to look at the door handle linkage. I want to have an idea what I'm doing before I break something (else).

If you are truly locked out you need to remove one of the quarter windows. It takes about 3 minutes. Some people remove the entire seal w/ glass; I just work the glass out of the seal using a worn screwdriver to start it and then bike tire levers. I do this on locked cars at junk yards if I need an interior part.

Seating it isn't the problem, sealing it is. You really need to use a thin flowing sealant once the old sealing surfaces are compromised. Some people have had no problem without sealant and others have found the rear footwells flooded with water after a good storm. By removing the glass only you avoid breaking that rubber to metal seal. I've never seen a window leak between the glass and rubber unless the rubber got torn. Either way gets you into the car. Be careful with really cold rubber and glass, they tear or break much easier.

I try to leave my doors unlocked (atleast driver's side) too because of cold weather; they tend to freeze every now and then, and key doesn't always open it;
once I had to climb into my baby from the hatch, that was a painfull experience lol
my passenger lock seems to work better then driver's side too

my drivers side froze just the other day too, but it was somewhere near -10C
sometimes WD40 helps. or you can buy that mini spray for unfreezing locks, that thing unfreezes and lubricte lock in seconds.

Tell AAA to come out with a slimjim. I once had them come out and the guy tried for like 30+min to get the thing open with all their new fancy crap. Those don't work on our car. He finally called out an older guy, who came up to the car, and pop'd it open in a second with a slimjim.

well I got in. I pried the door just enough to fit a long thin rod in to push the hatch release button. However the bigger problem is that the drivers side exterior door handle seems to be disengaged, while the inside still works. I have the door panel off but just can't figure out how to get at where the exterior door handle connects to the rest of the mechanism because the window guide is in the way, and that doesn't seem to want to move either. Anyone fix this before?

I'm not sure what you are saying? If the inside handle works is your door now open? If so disconnect the screw at the rear of the door frame that holds the outer handle on. You can then tip the handle forward and roll it out far enough to see what's come loose. Sounds like your handle is possibly broken like this.
