I believe you're correct, but I think some dealers may have been installing them. Add a $75 light panel and bump the MSRP by $500, you know...

You watch. One day after everyone has ripped theirs off their car and smashed them in utter hatred, there will be one that shows up on Barrett Jackson that sells for $300,000 because it has the period oddity center taillight. The only one left in the world!

IMO the 944 looks squatier and cooler without it... but who is anyone to tell you how to fashion your car.

+1 get rid of that panel asap. I can send you an euro licence plate and you can put us over it, it looks a lot better than that crapy pannel.

My car came with one and I don't mind it at all. Kinda reminds me of the rear end off a 911 4s. I think it would be more trouble than its worth to remove it and get it looking good. Only problem is the lighted plate frame that came on my car was broken so I had to make up a LED jig. Now I need to figure out a way for the center light to look better at night.

Only looks acceptable on a red 944, Not a big fan of the lights though.. it's too much ( just my opinion )

But don't you think its kind of redundant how it says "turbo" when the turbo badge is a little over a foot away?

Sure enough, but only U.S. dealers. This product was offered through an American supplier to PCNA and not available in Europe.

OTOH the rear valance for the early cars (covers spare wheel well and muffler) was only available through the dealer in Europe and sold through aftermarket vendors in the U.S. IIRC there's a fellow on Rennlist with the cleanest 84 anywhere who had it through European delivery but the quality is quite different.

Never liked the light panel myself either, but you will have some holes to fill in the sheet metal when you pull it off.

I like em, Not that I think the back end of a hardtop 944 looks good either way, for my cab I think it looks good. Less RX-7ish than it already looks.

I think the blank panels are ok, but I couldn't get into any of the ones with the script on them. The "PORSCHE" font doesn't match (although if it did, I'd be ok with it as well) and having "turbo" or "944" right next to the respective badges on the rear of the car seems a little redundant.

Oh, and I'd also keep the lights off.

Just my $0.02.

BB.

The light panel that says "PORSCHE" is rather hilarious if you think about it. If the car has the rubber spoiler, and the PORSCHE decal above the bumper, then that means it says PORSCHE on the back in 3 places.

PORSCHE

PORSCHE

P O R S C H E

Think its a Porsche?

Oh, and at what point do avatars and signature pics cross the line of good taste?
