An excellent question!

Triplesquare or 12 point drivers are needed to remove these things... they are all over the place!

Axles, flywheels, cam bolts, rear hatch pins, etc...

Might I recommend going to rennbay.com to pick up a set of drivers?

Welcome!

Don't forget to wake up the bolts by giving them a sharp blow with a hammer before attempting to loosen them. It will save you tools and time.

No problem. The first time I did my clutch, when I pulled the cv joint bolts, there was so much goo in them that I thought it was an allen wrench, and actually managed to get them out with one... they were thoroughly messed up though. For the cv bolts, last time I saturated them w/ wd40, dug all the crap out with a small screw driver so that the bolts wouldn't strip, then the cheesehead could fit deep enough and they came undone fairly easily.

Ditto on thinking at first that the 12pt slightly tapered spline drive, aka cheesehead, was an allen bolt. To get my CVs loose I ended up digging all the grease out that I could with an ice pick, then soaking them in degreaser to get a clean seat. Next I gently hammered the drive into the bolt to ensure a tight fit, then a breaker bar and lots of swearing.

IMHO, make sure you buy a decent set, I bought the regular set twice at Autozone, can't remember the brand, but it came with the 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, and 12mm I think and I snapped the drive on both sets trying to get off the half shafts. Quality tools are worth it.

Another thing; if the cheese head tip begins to wear and tends to slip out, grind a bit off (with a bench grinder) to get into the non-worn part again.

A cheese head bolt happens during the Packer game when the announcement is made..." There's just one beer left in the fridge."

DO NOT buy a cheap triple square set! They will strip and in turn strip your bolts. Spend the extra money and get a high quality set. It will save you alot of aggravation later.
