Early 944 fog light operation
I did a asearch couldn't find the answer I was looking for.
Simple question here. Are the fog lights on an early (1984) 944 suppose to turn off when the high beams are turned on?
My fogs have always stayed on regardless if the highs are on or not and the PO had a receipt for everything done to the car and no mention of fog light work could be found.
Thanks
Tom

No, they're not. I believe that's only the driving lights (which you wouldn't have unless you had a Euro bumper).
Mine stay on when the high beams are on.

Do you know if that is in print anywhere?
I had a garage disconnect the fogs to pass the car for state inspection, and then charge me labor to do it. I tried to tell them that is the way the car is, well my word wasn't enough.
Thanks
Tom

the foglites should have nothing to do with the inspection, don't go back.

Fog lights are required to turn off when you turn your high beams on, at least in PA. That is part of the PA motor vehicle code.
In my '02 Jetta and Passat, '00 Explorer, '03 Explorer, '86 944 turbo, '86 760 turbo and a '00 Contour, they all had fogs and when you turned the highs on in any of those cars, the fogs turn off. One exception was the '00 Explorer, the PO had rewired it so that the fogs stayed on all the time, a different garage picked up on it and told me about, and said to have it fixed before I bring it back next year.
I'm assuming my '84 944's foglights and higb beams are working correctly because there are other cars that work like mine so................... How do I show the garage my car came that way to get my money back and not to have any issues down the road?
Thanks
Tom

Early 944 manual
Note that this is for a euro car, not what the differences are in how the lights worked

On U.S. model 944s, the fog lights do not turn off when you put the high beams on. There may be some sources that say the do, but the reality is that they don't.
You can, however, manipulate the behavior of the fog lights as to when they are able to be on, off, etc. On cars with the fuse box under the hood in front of the windshield, there is a very low, flat thing that looks like a relay and plugs in among the relays. I believe it is called the bridge terminal. All it is is a plastic box that connects two terminals. If you unplug it, you will see that there are more terminals than just the two spades. Depending on which two terminals you connect, the fog/high/low beams will interact differently with one another.
Do a search with the words G6 and bridge terminal, and I think it will pull up an old post where I mapped it out and the rest of Rennlist cluelessly ignored it.
