Well I almost did the same thing. There's a link to this thread on a new thread; he didn't just pull it out of nowhere!

I was about to ask the same thing.

It's a much better sunvisor clip from VW that has a spring-loaded detent rather than a plastic hook that breaks. Here's the link with pics and the part numbers.

My local VW dealership is not the cheapest, and I often hear of other people finding things at retail prices that are about 10-25% less than my dealership, but at these prices, to replace both visor clips in black, with dress covers would be less than $14...

3B0 857 561 BY20 . . . $4.68 . . . Pearl grey
3B0 857 561 BB41 . . . $5.01 . . . Black
3B0 857 561 B8YS . . . ($.?.) . . . Light Beige

For the clip-on dress cover:

3B0 857 563 BY20 . . . $1.70 . . . Pearl grey
3B0 857 563 BB41 . . . $1.70 . . . Black
3B0 857 563 B8YS . . . $1.70 . . . Light beige... this colour wasn't shown, but the last 4 characters are the colour-code, and presumable the beige ones need a cover too, so this should be the part number.

The clip-on dress cover hides the screws... I really should take a picture of them back in the VW with the dress covers on" -It's a cleaner look, -If the shiny part of the metal clip offends you, a black 'sharpie' pen should take care of it for a good long while.

The prices seem to vary with colour, but my local VW parts place says that they have pretty much all of them in stock. I'm heading there this evening to get a black set and install them when I get home!

Thank you! Mine are cracked around the mounting screws - just noticed it last weekend when I was replacing the dash. I ordered mine online, just because the VW dealership near me is so bad that I'd rather pay the shipping.

I tried to save a '86 951, but there was just too much wrong with it

i would deffinatley love to do this one day as well.

and im sure this is not the point of starting the project, but with so few nice examples of 951's that are on the market, it would probably be a great investment.

Yes the car has had the cam tower gaskets changed, intake gaskets, and the timing belts changed. I need to put the front bumper back on it and after that it will be ready to sell. The car really would be great if someone would take the time to paint it right. The interior and wheels are in great shape, and it runs really well also.
