Hi all, here are some pictures I took last night. I used Ifranview to resize from 1.47mb files. They are all about 144kb now but thier size is small. If anyone wants larger pics please email or PM.

All that dusty stuff on the engine can be wiped away with my finger tips so it looks worse than what it is.

Heard back from the insurance company today and they assessed the car's value at $7,389 and I could but it back for $1,267 + the tow to get it back home, etc.

I was hoping for more than that seeings how the adjuster ranked the car in 'excellent' shape. I hope to have the PCA evaluation here soon so I can compare and have grounds for arguing for a higher settlement.

By all means fight the fight with the insurance co. The option to buy it back is always there and from what I can tell in the pictures it certainly looks fixable. You might want to check into the salvage title laws in your state. As long as you keep this all well documented, I don't think a slavage title really hurts value so much when selling to a knowledgable buyer...

unfortunately you are in for a battle. I fought with mine last year as well.

Sorry to hear about your misfortunes. Hopefully you can buy it back and build it better

i dunno- Rocks insurance gave him a lowball offer plus an opportunity to buy the car back w/ a salvage title for like $800- he said NO and they said ok hows double that figure and keep the car w/ clear title for free?

Well, I have been combating the insurance company and they are sticklers on only giving me $7300 for the car. I have looked in my general area on a host of different sites and nothings shows up. I told the insurance co that I thought it was worth at least $8500. There is quite a few S2's for sale at the $9000-$10000 price.

My PCA evaluation stated that the value for a good condidtion car is $9240 wiith an excellent cond value at $12,250.
I submitted this to the insurance co and they said it did not change the value of the car at all. They seem to be big NADA and Kelly Blue Book thumpers and keep referecing the values listed in there saying an "excellent" value 1989 944S2 is valued at $7200.

These guys are sorely pissing me off!!

those first 2 recalls were made in 1985 according to those articles- does that mean all the cars since then don't have that problem? wouldn't that include this S2?

The last one was 1990, though, which would definitely include his car (made in '88 right, since it's MY89)

Only car I ever had with a recalled part was ignition coils on my 325, which were replaced once under warranty and then replaced again with better quality parts from the recall; but both were free. Are we lucky enough to be able to take the car into a dealership and get that fuel line replaced for free?

Charlie,
PM Tom R. or do a search for his threads from when his S2 was stolen. He had a similar fight with his insurance company, and he documented everything and eventually got what his car was worth.

this is scarey, I think I will not pay a bit more to get fire insurance for my car. I don't get crash insurance but now I think I should at least get fire.

I have an 85.5 944 so what fuel lines should exactly be replace?

the 3 fuel lines going to the fuel rail an pressure regulator? and injector seals? this is what I'll replace next when I have the money.

What argue that ****! Dont be an ******* about it because that usually gets people defensive and provacative.

What I did. I did what you did and got a whole bunch of stuff together and told them the value of it. That didnt help much.

What you need to do is come up with a number in your head and stick by it.

In my case, I thought 6000 and I get to keep the car was fair value. So I just talked to them nicely and reminded them what fair market value is. Then you have to shoot a number higher than what you want. I said 6800. Then they will say no, let me put you on hold, blah blah blah.

Then you say "Look lets just get what is fair for the car, I dont want to waste any more of your time. I think 6000 is a really fair asking price given the condition of the car. Unfortuneatly i cant settle for lower than that or I will be at a loss'

Theyll give in. They dont want to go to court and pay lawyer fees. It will cost them more in lawyer fees and time than it would to write a check for 1-2K more than they want to give you.

REMIND them continuously that you wont settle for less than what you want.

Theyre trained to say NO to you. That is their job. If they said SURE to every claim that came their way, insurance companies would be at a big loss. You have to show them that youre not a push over and will get what your car is worth.

If they continue to tell you no, then tell them that youre going to research what legal options you have and then get back to them.

This is a war of words, you have to win it.

I read that the fuel rails are also recalled on the 944 so are we suppose to replace the fuel rails also??

These fire threads are making me really paranoid now I"m scared my 944 will explode when I go to start it.

I actually know a guy who had a 951 that burned due to an engine fire, seems like 944 engine fires are pretty common thing...
