Exhaust smoke in the car when windows are down
Hey guys. When driving with my windows down in my 951 the cars exhaust makes its way into the car. It spells up my clothing and gives me a headache. I don't have a cat on the car, but will when I get the SFR 3 inch exhaust kit I ordered. After doing some reading I'm lead to believe that the rear hatch seal is the culprit. I ordered a new one and should have it on tuesday. I wanted to see if there is anything else I should look for.
Also- There are no exhaust leaks. When I had the clutch replaced, my mechanic replaced all the exhaust gaskets.
Thanks,
Chris

Three Words;
Rear Hatch Seal.
You need to make sure it is in good shape, not completely crushed, and that the hatch latches are properly adjusted. Most times, the 20 year old seal is squashed flat, and if the hatch pins have not been re-adjusted for that geriatric seal, the hatch will be loose and let fumes in. Get a new seal if need be, and re-adjust the latches. End of problem.
Go down the road on a cold morning and watch in the rearview mirror as the exhaust steam rolls from under the spoiler. The aerodynamics of the car pull the exhaust right up under the spoiler, where the fumes will get in easily if the seal is not right.

Like others said, its most likely the rear hatch seal, but could also be your engine bay seal. Next time you're driving with your windows down, get a passenger to sniff the air vents to see if the incoming air smells. Don't try to sniff the vents yourself while driving..... When you drive with your windows down, it creates low pressure in the cabin, pulling air in from the vents.
