Default Spare Tires

Will another cookie cutter fit in the spare tire well? I'd' really like to have a real spare tire instead of the mutant puny spare thing that comes with it.

I don't really carry any tools any more or a pump since it hasn't been my primary vehicle till lately, so when I heard the leaky tire today, I had to hurry over to the Volvo dealer and have my brother patch the tire right away... annoying.

So, if I get another cookie cutter with a tire on it, will it fit (No, I don't have carpet back there, so that part doesn't matter).

It will not fit but I used the factory spare once and it performed adequately, though it has now been replaced with a can of tire weld as the rubber on the spare has cracked from age.

A 15X6 phone dial from a 924S with a 195/65 tire will fit back there, but I don't think a 15X7 cookie will, or so I've heard.

that's good to know... maybe I'll just weld up a mount to make that work... as long as it'll work on the car and it's close to full size I'd make it work

Just went thru this, and and the diameter of the spare tire well is not the problem, the front-to-rear depth is.

A 15x6 cookie cutter with a 185/65-15 Fusion HR-i fits in there perfect with a bit of depth to spare. It's almost exactly the same diameter as the 205/60-15s on the car, but is 3/4" narrower. The tire is $47 thru Tire Rack, and spare 15x6 cookie cutters or phone dials are cheap.

I trimmed the carpeting to fit around the tire, then had it edged. Bought a $10 black vinyl elastic tire cover to finish it off. You will have to remove the bracket extension in the spare tire well, but then the tire holding bolt threads right into the bracket that's welded on to the body tub.... Presto.

No more beyond-asinine compressor or "50 miles at 50 mph" donut for me!!!!!!

Now if I have a flat, I can change it in less than 5 minutes, and drive on my spare for 20,000 miles at up to 130mph. Not to mention the vinyl cover makes a handy storage pouch for the (dirty) flat tire.
