I actually had a friend who bought one of these a long time ago. Truth is, they make fans that can push some serious flow. The whole concept is kind of silly, but it DOES actually work. Though, as you can figure the claims are greatly exxagerated. My friend had one on a Ford Ranger. It came with a little "momentary" switch that you would install under the accelerator pedal. When you floored it, it would then depress this switch. It did give him a good deal more power off the line. He said it was weird, I guess because the fan only has one speed, it would break his tires loose right off the line, and it would give him an ooomph (so to speak) of power. The car was generally quicker when floored through the entire RPM range, but it was TOOO consistent... know what I mean? With a turbo car, the boost builds as your RPMs build. With a Supercharger, your boost ALSO builds with the rpm as they are both dependant upon the engine anyway. But with this, it was the SAME level of boost the entire time... so, while he would have improved power in the lower rpms, anything over 3,000 rpms he didn't really see much of an improvement. Another thing is that his fuel economy went down under normal driving conditions, I can only assume because the fan acts like a restriction when it's not running.
Anyway, it's kind of a silly mod, but it worked never the less. His VOLT warning light would always come on when he floored it... hahah..
I think it's kind of stupid... it sounds like someone turned on a hair dryer when you floor it, and there was almost a full second lag between the time you floored it, the relay engaged the fan, and the fan provided boost.
I'd never personally use one as it's kind of silly, but just thought I'd throw that out there...

I fly RC Plains and had an electric Jet (ducted fan) Basically same type of fan you see here and it flew my 4.5 lb plain at a clocked 65mph. As goofy as this thing is, if you could figure out a way to pressurize the intake with out blocking the intake when not on boost it might actually do something. you could then use a big *** Capacitor to address the amp draw. I'm not sure electric in a reasonable fashion is up to providing the amount of boost produced by turbo or SC. Mybe this would work on a Prius
