You're right, but I think that's an error on Paragon's web site. If you look below some on that link, it says "Fits 944 83-85.1".

On this parts web page for the early cars, it also shows the same auxilary air valve:
http://www.paragon-products.com/category_s/402.htm

On this parts web page for the late cars (page 2), it shows both the auxilary air valve (for early cars, which I think is a mistake) and the Idle Control Valve (for late cars):

Confused yet?

There's no other shaking at any rpm, which leads me to believe that it's not a balance belt issue (timing or condition), but rather just a resonance vibration I'm feeling through the steering shaft. What might cause this?
out of time balance shafts will shake violently twice through the RPM range. I believe at Idle, and 4500 RPM. Also, when were your motor mounts last replaced?

Why is everything cheaper for the BMW M series?!!?

FYI: reference sensors are 1/2 the cost when you search for the 88 M3 sensors and now The Aux air valve is the same as the M6 from 88... and the cost difference is $229 from Porsche part sources, $56 from BMW sources (yes, same Bosch part number)!!!

Today on the way to work it was pretty cold, but the car was a little different than I'd seen it. It was jumping between 900 and 1200 idle a couple times and then settling at 1200...

I know it may sound like a load of s**t but possibly try a bottle of injector cleaner? It seemed to get rid of MOST of my surging and misfiring, to the point where it was unacceptable to the passenger. (I also cleaned out my ISV as stated before and readjusted my idle with the o2 disconnected and it seemed to REALLY help the surging idle)

The motor mounts are the originals most likely. These are most likely the culprit. The balance timing was set when we did the engine about ~500 miles ago. We will be taking the timing system apart in the next few months to retighten the belts, change the oil etc, for its first full overhaul after the engine rebuild.
