Default loose A/C compressor pulley

Hi folks,

I noticed the A/C compressor pulley on my 951 is "loose", enough so [1-2 mm of wobble] that it threw the accessory belt. It appears I was lucky as the thrown belt did not take anything else with it [knock on wood].

I imagine the pulley shouldn't have any noticeable play, so, would anyone be able to surmise what part of the compressor disintegrated? Will this most likely require a complete replacement? Thanks for your time.

Is the pulley loose or is the entire compressor loose?
Mine threw the belt when the bolts holding the AC fell out and was held tight by the turnbuckle.

Jason,

Only the pulley is loose [wobbles back and forth 1-2 mm]. The clutch, compressor, mounting bolts, and tensioner are solid. Strange, isn't it? I have a funny feeling I will need to replace the entire compressor to resolve this issue...

Make sure the the pulley nut is tightened before you go pulling things off and replacing them... I got your PM and have a spare compressor but it may have PeteL's name on it. This is a good compressor too...

Is Pete having a problem with his compressor? Is his leaking? If so, maybe we can put your spare on his car and I can "rent" his old one for a few weeks until I get mine rebuilt [if necessary]. I'm just looking for a straight compressor with a functioning pulley so I can tension my acc belt. But as you suggested, I'll check the center nut to make sure it's on nice and tight. Unfortunately, I have a bad feeling the bearing on the end of the shaft has gone tango uniform...

Ping PeteL... if he doesn't need the compressor we can slap it on your car temporarily.
