Was yours consistently 45 minutes into driving? For me, the hiccuping will occur whenever the damn car ruddy well feels like it. It'll do it on startup sometimes, do it when accelerating, do it at 20 mph, at 50 mph, at constant throttle, etc...

when an ign coil goes bad tho, doesn't it usually just stop working? Would it be possible for it to not work only part of the time?

The 45 minutes is an average. In general, the car would drive normally, boosting perfectly for about that long. Then it would suddenly stall out of the blue and start behaving erratically as described.

We replaced:
- Both speed/reference sensors
- TPS
- ISV
- Alarm control module
- Distributor cap and rotor
and checked all pertinent sensors (engine temp, O2, airflow, etc.) as well as the coil.

It was really annoying getting the car back from the shop and having it crap out an hour later. After what I went through, I would try driving the other car with your DME a bit longer before ruling it out.

However, since you say your DME malfunctions from the beginning, then you may have a different issue. Did you replace anything yet?

Good luck!

Yeah I agree. Unfortunately, that car was a customer's of the shop up in Phoenix (about 100 mi away) and we couldn't drive it for any extended period of time.

I really need to drive it for about a week or two to truly make sure.

There's a guy who had similar symptoms that were related to the spark plug wire connectors. Have you checked those? I say this because his car had a bad idle from the start, but this may not be your problem.

Another "maintenance" item worth checking are the injectors. How many miles on this car?

119k. I have checked the resistances of each injector, and all works fine. I am, however, going to swap in a new set of flow-matched injectors I've got.

The connectors looked fine when I tested the resistances of each wire. Oh and the idle is fine as well.
