ball joint pics- this ok? (attn travis)
Well I've had creaking/groaning/popping at low speeds from the passenger's side, which I thought was odd considering I have pretty new race kit rennbay rebuilt control arms (bronze upper bushings). Could still be the upper strut bearing, but I wanted to have a look at the ball joint.
The good:
grease cap intact and okay
plenty of grease (cleaned for pic)
joint movement still stiff (took tapping with rubber mallet to move, totally unmovable by hand)
pin looks undamaged (little scratches from installation / removal)
the bad:
trailing (aft) edge has some wear on the upper lip of the socket for about 20*.
More apparent in real life than in the pictures, but here it is:
Is this wear from the binding I get when I back up and turn?

That indent looks like a mark on the pocket from the car being jacked up.. not a binding issue. Binding issues are to the outside of the pocket caused during suspension compression.
I would look to the strut mounts or the sway bar bushings. That ball joint looks good to me. Also remember to torque down the pinch bolts. The noise could also be caused by the pin slipping in the pinch when turning. Doubt it though.

there's that trusted rennbay knowledge and service...
gotta be the strut mounts then...I upgraded my rubber sway bar bushings to delrin a little while after the noise started to get that out of the equation.
I torqued the nut to the shop manual specs. Time to get to work on that strut mount...
Thanks for continuing to look out for your customers, Travis.
I try to look out for you a bit...a bit small in the pic, but it's there!
