Having just bought 1986 wanting to up grade wheels.. Found a set of ROH 7.5" 225/45/17" front with 5 3/8" offset..Rears are 8.5"/255/40/17" with 5 1/2" offset...Will these fit under fenders on stock car?? Or do I have to put air shocks to jack it up?? LOL..just kidding..Thanks in advance for your info and hard earned experience.. Carter

Generally offset is measured in millimeters. Your car, being an '86 should have 52mm offset.

search the boards, there's several threads that go into detail about situations similar to yours.

Best of luck,

Wrongo batman. An 86 is early offset. Early offset is something like 20, late offset is 52. 85.5 model changed the interior, 87 model changed the wheels. there are low offset phone dials from 86 and high offset phone dials from 87 on.

Either those are the wierdest wheels ever made or the numbers quoted are for "backspace". Offset is measured from the centerline of the wheel to the mounting surface. Backspace is from the inner rim edge to the mounting face.

Offset is the standard method of measurement in the wheel industry. It is also cast (or at least stamped) on the wheel somewhere. Usually on the inboard side of one of the spokes.

Oh come on, like you haven't gotten some things mixed up before.

Might be why the wife doesn't trust you when you're behind her anymore...

IF your offset is measured in inches, chances are the bolt pattern is wrong. American cars measure offset in inches. I know my brother's off-road truck has a 4.5in. offset, but that was a custom wheel too. You may want to just pick another wheel...
