Default interesting cab

We've all seen the red one...well, here's a white one:

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/car/437683339.html

You'll think I'm nuts, but I came across a website a few years ago that had one of these and the guy claimed that it was the first cab prototype built for Porsche by the German division of ASC. This article talks about ASC and even has a reference to the 968 near the bottom: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Specialty_Cars

His car was a custom red metallic color, supposedly a rare color. To be sure, I've only seen that color one other time on a European 944. I'm pretty sure it was an '86 model.

I'm sure he's talking about head work - a valve grind. Probably as a result of having to replace the head after a TB failure. Nothing else really makes sense - but, then again, it is Craigslist, so who knows.

In Excellence Was Expected, there is a section on the AC cabs and a few pics. IIRC there is a photo of an early prototype from them in US-spec with Fuchs, standard 944/951 windscreen (not racked like the production cabs), and no quarter windows on the door. Very much like the white one in your link. I can't recall the color but I *think* it is burgundy (although the photo may be black and white). I should take a look at it this weekend when I am home.

The one in your link looks good, not like a home-job at all. Would be interesting to find out the history of the car.
