Default Shipping a rear hatch - Norcross, GA to Mpls, MN

My hatch has separated from the frame a bit. It's not bad enough to leak, but I'm sure it will be soon enough.

I've read about replacing the seal and it sounds like a real PITA.

There's a guy selling a bunch of late-model hatches on e-bay (sorry for the e-bay plugged. Got my peepee smacked last time I did that )

Would anyone near this guy (Norcross, Georgia) be willing/able to work with me on packing/shipping if I decide to go this route?

Or, if anyone has any better ideas for the hatch frame, I'm all ears.

Default if you go this route

Make sure you insure the glass. I doubt seriously that it won't be shattered when it arrives.

Also, does this guy guarantee that these hatches aren't also separated?

So, I was asking the list first to see if anyone would be willing to help (I'd pay you, of course). Then, I'd ask Josh a little more about what he's got available.

I'll quote: "...There are a few without obvious seperation at the top of the hatch."

Compared to the 'obvious separation' of my hatch, it sounded promising.

However, if the consensus is that shipping is a bad idea, then I'll keep looking locally.

You could always go on a road trip - drive down here without a hatch - hope for no rain and bolt one of these on when you get here....

...or drive down with your hatch on, remove and replace when you get to Josh's, and leave Josh with a "Hatch with obvious separation" to sell on eBay (for someone who wants to reseal one)

I heading to Atlanta on Monday. If Josh can figure out a way to fold the hatch I'll bring it back as a carry-on. If you can't work out shipping you're welcome to take a look at mine, I'd swap hatches for a nominal fee. The thing is I'm not sure what a separated hatch looks like, how does this one look?

Dang.

I'd still be happy to bring Josh's hatch back if he can figure out how to fit it in a carry-on. Too bad Leighton Reese isn't still running Speed World Challenge, I could probably arrange to bring the hatch back in his hauler.

Well, my ghetto fix of deluxe duct tape works for me. Keeps the rain out well. I bought new hatch struts and promptly pulled out the glass at the top. New struts have too much power. Had I known I would have carried on with the half a hockey stick to hold the hatch up.
You know, my Mazda RX7 GSLSE has none of these issues with which we are cursed with the 944s. It is faster, stops better, holds the road as well as my 944, does not have waterpump/timing belt/oilcooler/hockey puck clutches/ assorted rain leaks/ mysterious electrical gremlins....
But I still struggle on with the 944 because I always wanted one, and you know when you close the door, the German solid clunk is nice and it is good for long trips, I think I have the issues resolved... trying now a new ignition switch to cure, hopefully, the cutting out of the radio and motor when driving over a sharp bump on the road at all speeds...
Mike
