Sound deadening/insulation.... where?

I just bought 48 sq ft of 3/8" inch thick insulation and now I need ideas of where to put it. And maybe tips on problems I'll run into.
My intention when buying was to put it in the doors to keep the cold and wind out because I have no plastic between the panel and the door. But I thought I could make use of more of it so I ordered a hell of a lot of it.
I was thinking of putting some in the spare tire compartment because that is where I keep my jumper cables and a few tools (no spare tire, but I do have a can of "Fix-a-flat" LOL) and they rattle around a bit.
I'll probably replace some/all of the old sound deadening stuff except what is attached to the hatch carpet.
And can I put this stuff under my hood? It looks like aluminum foil on one side and like green fiberglass (but not) on the other.
It says it's rated for pretty high temps so I don't think the heat would be a problem?
Any tip-er-oonies? Do you think I could get it on the firewall with the engine in? Fat chance right?
Also, I searched for carpet removal and saw that it is possible to pull up the drivers foot well carpet without cutting it? Is that true?
