Look into compounds (stickier street tires or track tire+wheel combo) before you start going nuts with trying to fit retarded wide wheels. If you are having grip issues, look into suspension tuning as well.

Also take into account proper heating of the tires for what you are trying to do. At an autocross, I highly doubt you would be able to get any decent tire up to temp when going as wide as you want.
There are a number of people running 275/15s in NASA racing and doing quite well, even though they they have less than 150 rwhp.

Some discussion on 944 cup http://forum.44cup.com/viewtopic.php...=615&hilit=275

This blanket statement is simply not accurate. The suspension set-up & track configuration will help determine if the wider tire is a benefit. Also, the tread width of the tire is larger so obviously the "contact patch" would be larger as well. Advantages of R's vs. A's too. Also, most tracked 944's are more in the 140-150RWHP range and are weighing in around 2600lbs. which is a well balanced package.

I have run 275/35-15's square on my 944. They will fit with minimal fender rolling on a standard bodied car. They are faster than previous set-ups, 15" and 16", and should be mounted to at least a 9" if not 10" wide wheel. The set-up also has the smallest tire OD which translates to a lower center of gravity and slightly better cornering.

Well, the Mazda and honda guys have been doing it since this tire came out, and there were quantitative results.... I just didn't read anything about it here yet...

Reading on numerous road race/autocross forums, I'm not concerned about the 15x7 wheels. Even with the "pinch" effect of this wide a tire on a 7" wheel, I'll still have a bigger contact patch than say, a 225 race tire... I just care about actual clearance at stock height and wheel offset...

I'm sorry, maybe I should just get a set of 195/65/15's and save a few bucks... It's got the same "contact patch", right?
