Default Water pump?

I was going to swap the cars around and I noticed a green puddle under the 944. I checked it out and yeah, I'm leaking coolant from the front... I pulled the covers off and can't see any coolant, so I think it's leaking from behind the covers.

I'm guessing water pump. Thoughts?

It would do this when I'm supposed to do a HPDC on the 22nd...

Figures...

Well, on the bright side, I was waiting for the next timing belt job to paint the cam carrier. I guess I now have my chance.

Well, not necessarily. Water flows down hill. Look at the highest point and work your way down. It may be the gooseneck coming out of the head, the water temp sender, or the bleeder screw. One can only hope.

Well, it's not coming from the bleeder screw or the gooseneck. I don't know where the water temp sender is, unless it's the sender right underneat the J-tube... and if it is, it's not leaking. The head gasket was replaced 5 years/15-20k ago (I didn't drive it alot for 18 months!).

So...

I vaguely recall having a leak like that which was caused by a loose clamp on the water pump (the large one). Do a pressure test.

Is there a way to easily test that? I only ask because if it's going to cost me a couple hundred dollars to do it, I may as well just replace it all anyway, since I'm due for a timing belt change next summer.

A pressure test shouldn't cost very much at all, certainly not hundreds. I dunno, maybe $30 at a cheap outfit? Just get out a screwdriver and check the clamp tightness, that's free.

Agreed, check the clamps. Had a similar leak. I replaced the hose that connects at the top of the waterpump to the coolant waterpipe (which runs over the exhaust manifold). The clamps worked a bit loose after a few heat cycles and i had a leak just like that. The clamps get old and stretch, worth checking.

The hose/clamp area is dry, so that's probably not it.

Bump...

Anything else before I place an order?

Thanks!
