Default Should I sell? Or Part out?

Its a 1987 944S, with 195k miles.

Timing belt, balance belt, oil pump, rollers, camshaft chain tensioner, spark plugs, oil change, done 20 miles ago (last week), no oil or power steering leaks. Very good paint. Very good interior. Clutch needs to be replaced but is drivable.

Basically the car is in awesome condition, except the clutch....

Should I sell it? Or part it?

What should my asking price be?

Don't ask why i am selling it please......lol

I went to battle of the imports last night, and watched 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13 second honda's that were built with very little money compared to the time and money that I have dumped into the 944. It was a depressing night for me =(

haha.. hey that's not a bad reason. Do what you will enjoy.

Honestly you could probably bang out a clutch in a weekend or two. Do that and sell it. Otherwise, decide of 1500-2k(not going to be a quick sale) selling it broken, or if 3-4k parting it out (probably take a couple months of work to do if you have a life) is more worth to you

i might be interested, depending on the price, and the general condition of the car seeing as it has 195k. it sounds like a good car but the mileage kinda puts me off. what do you think its worth?

o also, how bad is the clutch, like does it need to be fixed immediately?

honest to god I believe its worth 3k or a little more. The clutch is the ONLY wrong thing on this car. Everything else is tip top. I will buy a membership tomorrow and post it up with some pictures. I would love to see this car go to a rennlister that knows how to do a clutch. It would end up being a VERY good deal. Sorry I didn't want this to turn into a for sale post, since i don't have a membership yet.

You (probably) won't get 3k for it with a bad clutch. Not with 197k... Unless somehow it has a brand new 3k+ paint job or perfect original paint plus perfect body, one ownered, perfect interior with replaced carpets sport seats, the lot.

But, where there's a will theres a way. Good luck. and i'm not just saying that. If someone is handy, maybe they would go 3k depending on condition. but if the clutch is GONE, as in teh car won't drive right now.. I'd say you get 2000 probably. I didnt see its an S.

remember, a clutch can be a 1-3k job at a shop.

I had a rather hard time parting out a car identical to yours with only 60,000 miles on it. It was hit from the side and totalled, so that was all that could be done with the car. Someone who regularly parts out these cars told me the engine was worth almost $2000 and the transaxle $500-800. I received $1000 and 400 for those parts, respectively. Someone got a deal- the head can go for over a grand on eBay. The buyer got a long block, wiring harness, and a clutch with 15,000 miles on it.

I was also unable to sell those through Rennlist.

There are not going to be many people out there who want to buy an engine or trans with almost 200k on them. It's better kept as a driver. I'd fix and sell, or fix and drive it until the wheels fall off.

if you want a quarter mile trapping car, buy a 5.0 foxbody.

a 944 is for a different purpose. However today while I was rolling home on the highway I was in the middle of three lanes I was gassing it and doing about 90when a subaru from the right merged left very quickly, I could not change into his lane because it was full, so I did the only other option the left lane as soon as I get to the left a truck and trailer guy hits his brakes. I hesitated to do so because the trailer had no brake lights and I became confused. This split second did not allow me to be able to stop in timeI jammed on the brakes because I had nowhere else to go. I wasnt going to make it in time. I was going 90 and traffic in front was doing 65-70. then this little voice in my head goes.... drive! I went onto the shoulder half dirt half pavement and blew by this truck and trailer, the whole time my open differential is spinning in the dirt and Im trying to keep it straight. Anyways after I got by him I merged back into the lane slowed down a bit and drove home. A ricer honda or foxbody stang would have been in a ditch! morale of the story. drive the car for what you want it for.

Somehow, I read the above story and inferred a different morale............
