Default UnderDash Modules Possibly Not Stock? [86 944 N/a]

Any idea what these modules are under the dash?? Which of these are supposed to be there and which are aftermarket additions by previous owners?

1 and 2 are not stock, 3 is stock. 3 is the central locking controller box.

What does it say around the white dial I see on box # 1? They look to me like aftermarket alarm boxes

The black box on #1 says

HI-----SET-----LOW and is a little white dial. I suspect it's an aftermarket alarm of some sort and this is the volume or sensitivity dial.

I have gutted out the aftermarket alarm junk from both 944s I've had, and I felt so good afterwards. They didn't work though, because I didn't have the remotes for them.

So I got the alarms untangled and exposed and no longer tied to the dash. They're still connected by a wire or two which goes it looks like through the firewall under the dash to the engine bay but I cannot tell because there's an enormous plastic guard that I can't get off. I'm experiencing starter issues and I want to eliminate all possibilities of what could be causing my woes. What should I do? CAn I just cut the wires and be done with it? I can't find them on the other side of the firewall though.

That big black square in the upper half of the last image is held in with 3 plastic bolt-like connectors. I can get two of them off, but of course there's a 3rd one way behind up in the back that i cannot get my fingers around, a socket on or anything. It's like a giant box that covers all of the wiring.

Thats the gaurd for below the fuse box. I have found that is much easier to install/un-install when you unbolt the fuse board and lift it up so the wires aren't all bunched up underneath.

I was able to get that last plastic bolt off with a long extension on the socket.

Yes, the fusebox has four finger bolts on it, and is made to lift up a bit.

The wires are long enough on my car so that I was actually able to pull the fuse board completely out of the metal tube thing it sits in and set it on top.

Okay, thanks a bunch guys. The fusebox did eventually pull UP far enough where I could disconnect the aftermarket alarms the previous owner installed. Whatever they were, their fuses were blown and/or broken, and some of the wires were previously clipped. Though it didn't fix my non-start issue, it feels good have them out of there.
