Default Engine block coolant drain plug size.

Anyone know the size of the coolant bolt/plug that goes on the rear of the 2.5l n/a engine block? I misplaced it somewhere in my garage and need a new one.

Does it need to be a special kind of bolt or anything? When I lost the original bolt, I replaced it with one that I found lying around my garage. Only thing is, when my car started leaking coolant on our run yesterday, I'm thinking that it worked its way around the bolt.

You need to use an aluminum crush seal washer with it.

I thought the coolant was coming from the driver side of the block. The drain plug is on the passenger side.

If you're looking for an aluminum washer at Kragen, they don't have any, but they do have copper, and that works too. They keep them by the oil filter wrenches.

There is a plug to drain the coolant from the block? Why was I not informed of this when I had the head off my engine?

Yes, and if you remove the upper rad hose first, you can almost completely drain the block of coolant before removing the head. Makes it a little bit cleaner
