Default Check the bearings in your camber plates!

So my 944 has been making some noises from the suspension, and I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. Knowing that I have no rubber left in the front, it was going to be hard to track down since noises seem to spread faster when everything is a solid connection.
Today I removed the camber plates from the car only to find that the bearing in one side now can slide though the outer race. The strut was pushing the bearing in and out and would sometimes come to rest on the spring hat. Not good! The snap ring is sized to only hold the outer race into the camber plate, and the inner one was sliding past the clip. So that didn't help retain the bearing.
The camber plates aren't that old, and while they do have some track time on them, they shouldn't fail like this. It could have been messy for me if it came totally out. And yes, they are Aurora bearings as you can see - not the cheaper ones make in China.

So just a reminder to everyone out there, just because it's solid and you think it's OK, just double check everything once in a while!

Thanks for the heads up!

Any idea where to buy replacement bearings?

I'm kinda stuck replacing the bearing with what's there. They are Aurora bearings - they have the Aurora name and model number on the side. I guess I'll just put it down as one defective bearing and replace them with the same ones? Not much other choice.
Tomorrow I'll order up a set and see if Aurora has any suggestions on how to prevent it in the future

Maybe just add these bearings to your list of consumables...

If you find a better manufacturer, please post!

Is that "ball retainer" (the part that failed on the bearing on the right side of your picture) swedged in on one side only? Perhaps it would be advantagous to make sure this side is up?

It doesn't seem to matter which end is up. It goes through both sides just as easy. It's a pressed interference fit. There’s no retaining shoulder on the sleeve so it doesn’t seem to have an pressure orientation
