Default Hood latch help!!

My release cable broke.
I started down the path to pop the latch from under the car. I have removed the front tray. I have looked up to try to find the latch (and can see the bottom of it barely). I cannot tell where to put the screwdriver to pry and have the latch open.
I have a 951 and cannot see much up under the hood, even with my best flashlight.

Could someone post pictures of the latch as it appears from beneth the car and highlight the location for applying the screwdriver?

I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Lee

I've never released the hood from beneath the car, but I've attached some pics showing the location where I think it could be done. Maybe people more experienced with this task can comment.

The first pic is a view from the bottom of the car with a screwdriver coming in from the top (sorry, couldn't get a good pic otherwise). Working from the top, I was able to force the screwdriver left in the pic and move the release mechanism.

The second pic shows a view from the top of the car with a better view of the release mechanism. This is on an early car, BTW. Hope this helps.

Austin,
Thanks for the photos. I am guessing that the bar across the bottom of the top photo is the headlight linkage. If you could take one more photo a little further out, showing both the release mechanism and where the hood pin would fit into the latch, it would really help as all I am able to clearly see on my car is the actual hood latch.
Thanks again.

I can't see the hood pin or safety latch mechanism from the bottom, the headlight linkage and a radiator hose blocks the view. Hood pin receptacle on the left, hood safety latch receptacle on the right. Keep in mind I have an early NA car.

Are you just looking for the screwdriver insertion location in relation to something else?

Good luck with that. It took several hours with my 931 to open by pulling at the cable at the latch.

Tug the cable where it hooks onto the spring with a vicegrip.

Can anyone with a 944 turbo offer ideas/suggestions because with the coolant crossover pipes and stock airbox, the latch mechanism is not visible nor dirrectly accessable by a straight screw driver?
Thanks,
Lee
