Default Wheel/Tire survey

Just spent the last 1/2 hour looking for something like this in the list.

This isn't a 'vote' sort of survey. I'm just curious about what you guys are running.

Include:

(edit: modify as Erzengal suggested below. Thanks E )
  • Year/Model
  • Wheel Size (diameter x width)
  • Offsets (and spacers if any)
  • Tire Sizes
  • Wheel Brand/Style

If you have pics, that would be great. I scored a nice set of 18s (et52 and et58) and I'm driving myself nuts trying to figure out a tire setup for my '88 951. I've heard there's some sort of rule-of-thumb about keeping the front to back width difference around 20mm, but I've seen a lot of people break that rule.

I'd just like to see what you guys have found works best (18" or otherwise).

  • Year/Model - 1984 944
  • Wheel Size - 18x8 and 18x11
  • Offsets (and spacers if any) - ET 34mm (Whatever came on the Car originally, I think like 1" on the Rear, nothing on the front)
  • Tire Sizes - 225/40ZR-18 & 285/30ZR-18, Porsche N-Rated, Pirelli Systems (Blackwall Asimmetricos)
  • Wheel Brand/Style - Hell if I know, Made in Germany, off of a 993, has the name Cassat on it.

Modified your list a bit for more info.
Haven't heard of 20mm difference before. A Note newer 996/997s use something like 225/285 or 235/295, 987's: 225/265.

wow, those are FAT. Did you have to do any rolling of your fenders?

I'm concerned about my 58mm offset. Of course, that's only something like 3/8" but maybe it would rub on the inside? That wheel is 10" wide.

edit: Ha! I just ordered 225/275s from Tirerack. The guy called about 5 minutes later to warn me about the rear tire size and that I should use 255s. Thought that was cool and told him that all the guys on rennlist said it was ok and if he had a problem with that he needed to get online and clarify.

ok, I didn't really say that.

275? Odd size. Note, I have an Early Car, so no idea how it translates to yours. I also fitted 295s, but they were visually a bit much, might go back. I do get some slight rubbing on the Drivers Rear rarely. Once you learn what bumps do it you learn to avoid them. I should roll the fenders though to be safe.
There are a few here with late cars and 295's on if I recall correctly.

I've seen a few cars here with 275. Don't think it's an odd size. 295 sounds way too big for the stock fenders.

I don't think the offset should matter unless something changed in the wheelwell dimensions. The centerline of the tire should pretty much be the same regardless of offset, I would think.
