Default Sunroof problems

I just put in a new sunroof seal and no the sunroof doesn't work. When you turn the key to the 1st notch and hit the button, the roof should lock itself. At the second notch, hitting the button should lift the roof. The roof did work prior to putting the new seal on. The roof isn't quite flush with the new seal, but even with having a couple people push down on either side to level the roof it would not lock/raise.

When you hit the button, it sometimes makes the clicky noise like when the roof isn't on quite right, but the lifting arms don't move at all. I tried moving the alignment pieces on the sunroof, but it didn't help. Is this an electrical issue or just that the roof isn't on right or what?

On an '84 N/A

I really need to fix this quickly because I'm driving the car to Denver, 16 hours from Memphis, next week.

Thanks

I'm now thinking it might be electrical. The fuse is good. Is there a relay for the sunroof / if so where? It worked before, but sometimes intermittently.

Sounds like you striped the sunroof gears or broke the lifting mechanisms. There's a fair difference between the thickness of an old compressed seal and a new one...I did this on my old '84 and wound up shearing the little ends off of the lifting arms (crapy design). I should have read clark's garage first and would have known not to close the roof without adjusting it first.

The sunroof is shut and watertight . I tested the microswitch between the sunroof hinges and it seemed to work. I got the roof to raise and shut a couple times. But it stopped after that. It seemed that the adjustment bolt wasn't tight enough and was spinning to loose, after each time the roof was closed, which caused the bolt be undertorqued to raise the roof.

I manually raised it, then tightened the bolt. Snap. The end broke right off. Even if I had a replacement bolt handy, I don't think there is enough room for pliers or anything to get the remainder of the bolt out. At least it's on and locked for now...
