Quick brake rotor comparo lesson

I think it's a waste of money to go for big brakes on a street car especailly on a n/a.
the stock 944 n/a brakes are already pretty damn good, at least for me. The car stops very quickly with the stock brakes and I need to replace my rotors and pads so I'm guessing it will brake better than it does now when I get it replaced soon.

Stooge, weight difference between the stock 951 brakes and the 944 brakes is marginal. The calipers actually weigh about the same, the rotors are maybe 2lbs difference.
The 928GTS rotors.. lets just say if you ran out of plates on your bench press, you could hang them from the ends of the bar for a better work out .
Stock 951 4-piston vs n/a single piston caliper
Who said anything about street cars..

I recently did a 951 brake conversion to my '83 924 "turbo" using brand new Zimmermann discs, Ferodo DS Performance pads, steel-braided hoses and Ate Super Blue fluid. Difference is amazing compared to 944 NA brakes that I had before and those were in very good shape.
But I didn't use 951 spindles because of the speedo cable hole (didn't feel like drilling a spindle) and since I'm such a cheap bastard I just fabricated adapters for fronts and modified the spindle a bit to accomodate thicker rotor.

Love the tucked look in the rear. Any rubbing issues in the front?
I was in Tallin, Estonia around the first week of July. Beautiful country. I was in town the same week the Peking to Paris rally was rolling through.

No rubbing issues but it's so close that 5mms more in or out would rubb. Went to the track also last year, no rubbing.
Thanks for the compliments to our country

Last summer we took the Jet boat from Helsinki to Tallinn for 3 days in the old town. Very cool. Great to see Estonians (and Finns ) here on Rennlist.

I have a friend who did this on his 924S trackcar and you are correct, he can stop much better than I can with the Wilwood kit. Of course, he cannot run 15's and I can (cheaper tires).

I did a brake swap with my 924S. Turbo spindles to mount the 4 piston calipers, new drilled turbo discs as well new 16" wheels and tires. The calipers are comparable in wieght since they're aliminum vice cast steel. I would love to hear from someone that did the Wildwood big brake kit. The reason you don't need to upgrade the rears is that the stock turbo set-up uses a bias vavle on the master cylinder to lower the pressure to the rears (turbo calipers/pads are the same size front to rear). NA set-up uses different sizes front to back. Hard braking shifts the car's weight forward so the fronts do most of the work. If you swap a turbo brake set-up into an NA without adjusting the bias, you're asking to lock up the rears when braking into sharp corners which will lead to a ride in the turf.

The car will be tracked. Ive basically decided to keep the 944 as the daily driver / auto-x car and just straight up label the 951 as the track car . All next summer though, i just have money to do a few more auto-x's this year.

Hopefully the 951 will get them before sept 15th. if not don't throw away the box the other rotors came in. the rotors on my S2 are getting tired. I should make it through two days at lime rock.
