honesttly that sounds horrible to me, too loud and does sound ricey (sorry not trying to be an *** lol).

I think it's hard to get a good sound from a 4cyl engine. On a 928 or a car with a v8 you can get a really nice sounding exhaust but a 944 it's still a 4cyl

I kind of want to go with a highflow cat an d muffler soon (mines rusting out) but I still have no idea what to get I don't want to be heard across the street when I'm going 10km/h lol

I think the stock 944 exhaust sounds good and the sound is right, I can still hear my exhaust and engine but it's not to loud.

getting the right tone and volume can be pretty tricky I guess.

when I had an old 924 (2l audi engine) I had a flowmaster 4 series on it for a while with no cat and was way too loud sounded liek a motorcyle

you may have to go with a highflow cat and a resonator to get it to quiet down.

a high flow cat is still going to be way louder than the big *** stock cat.

I wonder what the flowmaster 60 series muffler would sound like on a 944, says for small 4cyl and 6cyl sport compacts and trucks. flowmaster 60 series plus highflow cat / maybe a small resonator, probably won't be much louder than stock and should sound good.

We'll see. I get it back today with a resonator, probably around 5:00pm. If it sounds decent, I might just get some soundproofing for my rear cargo area (most of the foam is gone from my carpet even), and quiet it up a little inside the car.

May be looking to sell the Borla at a discount if I go with something else. This exhaust guy is going to hate (or love $$) me by the end of this...

I'm really torn. I bet a lot of the raspyness will be gone with a resonator. I don't want a rice sound.. I like a race sound, but don't want it to be overbearing. I have the S2 LSD transmission and 70-80 on the highway is 3500-3800rpm. I guess I'm in a pickle. I want as much performance as I can get (otherwise I would just put a stock cat on) and good sound.

Any more opinions? Do those videos sound rice or nice?

With the car sitting at 3500RPM, you're at the loudest part of the revv band for the muffler. My Borla is loudest around 70-80. Let us know how the resonator deal works out. Did the exhaust shop give an opinion on a way to quiet it down?

Well first of all, this isn't an exhaust specific shop like Midas or something. This is an auto shop that my mom got exhaust work done on her truck at and they were very good. The guy's work is really nice looking, and very good price. So you have to take any suggestions with a grain of salt...

I picked it up,
Me: "All set?"
Him: "Yup, it's loud, that's what you wanted right?"
Me: "We'll see..."

Came back with money and a test drive,
Me: "I might be back, little loud for me... Might look into a resonator or something."
Him: "Not a problem, if you want I have resonators here"
Me: "Think that'll quiet it down a bit?"
Him: "Yeah, they have the restrictors and baffling in them, should make a difference."
(shows me them and I leave)

That's about it. My dad said it should round the sound off a bit, and the loud points should be killed off some.

Hopefully!

Yeah, that should take that harsh edge off the sound as well as making it quieter.

I'm just curious about how your car feels with a completely straight through exhaust. I had the same torque curve as my girlfriends 115HP Jetta when I did a straight through exhaust....

Well, it's not straight through, it has a muffler. Unless you're not talking to me.

Also, I have a aftermarket non hi-flow cat that I put on for inspection, and it is much slower with that on, than wiht the gutted stock cat and stock muffler. It is the same , or maybe i touch more power with the test pipe and high flow muffler. You're not goign to really feel much on a butt dyno gutted cat vs test pipe and stock muffler vs high flow muffler.... it's probably what, 2hp? if that? ask m575 or whatever his name is. It's supposedly around 10hp on the dyno from stock to test pipe

OK, it is. It does have some baffling in the pipe, even though it is completley lengthwise, I figured that causes some minor turbulance that might effect backpressure a miniscule amount.

You're probably right, I guess it would perform the same as straight pipe exhaust.

Devon, I would recommend using a Magnaflow cat with that setup. What is your piping? 2.25" or 2.5"?

Got a sound clip of this Larry? Sounds like what I was looking at.

What is going to be more restrictive, a magnaflow cat, or a slightly better sounding/quieter muffler?

Sounds just like a 944 spec RACE CAR.

I am not sure I would run that on street though. Unless it was for a drive to the track, track car.

BTW... an S2 diff is geared lower than an NA diff. This means less RPM at the same road speed. In fact an S2 diff is slight performance loss for a 2.5L 8valve NA. Not much, but you can tell on a race track.
