It depends on what type of resonator

Is there differnet "types" of resonator? What would you suggest? The guy I got the work done with said he has resonators he can put in, and he showed me. Basically a barrel with some baffling.

The drive to work this morning felt like swearing in front of Grandma...

Sure hope the resonator helps... might have an XR-1 for sale at a discount soon.... Maybe I'm just not cut out for this sports car thing.

FYI: the turbo acts as a muffler. I put mine next to a 951 with an SFR system and the 951 was about 1/2 as loud!

Second. That car sounds good, but I agree, it's too loud. I have the SFR with the cat on mine and I'd recommend that setup to anyone. With the cat I can still set off car alarms in parking garages without trying. It's still loud, and that's the reason the cat is still there at all. The sound doesn't seem to be as choppy as that clip either, but that may just be me.

I'm also curious if a resonator is goign to be just as restricting as a high flow cat, thus making it pretty pointless to have a cat delete at this point.. Basically I'm thinking the only good reason not to have a cat now is because I'm too cheap to buy one.

Honestly, you may want to go with the high-flow cat. It'll help out with the sound A LOT!

FYI: don't go with a magnaflow - yeah, it flows great, but it sounds too ricey on the stock sized pipe for me... go with a flowmaster 50 series and you'll be happy with the sound and the volume of it if you switch.

Before you go to extremes, just swap the catback piece on my car...permanently.

Do you know from experience or data that a high flow cat will reduce sound more than a resonator?

This is becoming quite a project...I'm goign to end up spending 500-800 bucks by the time this whole thing is done i can tell, then I could've just bought an already built system.

Joel, if you really wanted it, I would probably trade cat backs + some money (big discount over what it cost me) if i ended up getting another muffler..

I replaced the cat on my NA with a summit glass pack ($21.00) and put on a Borla Turbo muffler. Everything was 2 1/4", matched up perfectly. Sounds
great. Nice low rumble at idle and keeps a deep sound all the time. Not ricey
at all. Louder than stock but not to loud. A lot of people have told me how
good it sounds.

I recently replaced my exhaust system, but before I did I had a bad cat and a tiny leak at the Y-pipe. Put together the damn thing was so loud (87 NA) it set off car alarms in my parking lot. I liked it when I was behind the wheel, but after hearing it idle from outside I was mighty embarrassed. Just don't feel right to be in such a loud set of wheels at my age.
