Default Sharky47 - New tool idea?

Hey Sharky,

I'm a big fan of your CNC work and was wondering if you'd ever consider making a nice CNC OPRV alignment tool. You always make great products at good prices so it's just a thought. Thanks!

LOL. That alignment tool is so unnecessary.

Is it? Please do explain. What can happen if the housing is misaligned?

Just use the OPRV itself as the aligning tool for the OPRV housing.

That only works on the later cars with the 1 piece updated OPRV. On the early cars with the 3 piece OPRV, you really should have the tool (there are actually 2 different tools, I believe one for the early NA engines, and then one for the 86 turbo engine....I can't remember exactly).

Ok, one more question. There is no danger of damaging the OPRV while using it to align the cooler housing?

Just get all the mounting bolts finger tight on the housing with the OPRV partly threaded in. You can back off the OPRV and find the spot where it seems to insert the easiest and tighten the mounting bolts, recheck that the OPRV stills pulls out OK and you are good. The 1-piece OPRV doesn't bind like the old piston/spring style 3-piece as any movement is internal before the lower O-ring rather than externally against a sleeve and piston.

Sorry fellas but I've removed/resealed/installed a couple dozen oil cooler housings over the last 10 years and never needed the tool or had one come up misaligned. This includes one and three piece valves.

It wouldn't be a bad tool to have around but it's not necessary. Especially if you're only going to use it once every 10 years.

yeah mine has a three piece- put an s2 oil cooler housing on it w/ the 3pc valve- never lined it up just dropped it in and no problems. Also had a few dozen others out with no problems. I think unless you are really really out of alignment youd not ever have a problem.
