924 with 951 parts?possible?
i just had a thought about my current project.i am currently building a 951 track car and the PO decided not to tell me about his previous accidents.the passenger fron frame rails are kinda crushed but it looks like the pulled the frame.anyway,i was thinking about transfering all my 951 parts to a base 924.from engine to transmission and suspension.is there any issues i might hit?problems?i just figured it be a great sleeper and catch alot of people of guard.lemme know what you guys think.

It can be done if you have two donor cars side by side to move parts too. A tub is a tub. The biggest issues will be the narrow fenders on the 924 and there may be a lack of brackets and holes in certain places in the body to mount things. The best NA tubs to use are the 85.5 and later as they are the same. The 83-85 944 tubs are a little different. Same goes or the 924S tubs. The 924 tub should work, but there will be alot more minor differences. You will need to move wire harness and things with it all.

The 924 uses a completely different motor mounting scheme which makes it completely impossible to mount a 944/951 engine in. Unless you make precise measurements, chop the part of your 951 frame where the crossmember mounts to, and weld those chop-outs into the 924. I have done a lot of mulling on this topic; many people told me it is hard and often not worth it, so in the end this is why I decided never to buy a 924, unless it was a 924S.

Arash, little correction.
Fitting 2.5liter engine to the 924 is not difficult, we've done it several times. Get appropriate engine mounts (we've used Lada Niva for example ) and fabricate brackets to mount them to 924 crossmember.
There's no point in cutting the chassis trying to use 944 crossmember.
For example, early 924's use solid torsion bar carrier-to-body mounting, not through rubber bushings, that makes it better track car project. And it's much lighter also.

FRporscheman,
I have a modified early 924 front crossmember that is supposed to mount a 2.5 in an early model tub. If you get serious about it, send me a front crossmember and I'll have a local welding shop make a dupicate.
