Ouch is right! I'm surprised it didn't sieze to the crank and destroy everything. The $2750 seems reasonable. I image you would have spent nearly that much on Porsche oversized pistons alone had you decided to re-bore/hone the aluminum. Any estimate on the increase in block weight?

Yeah, thats basically the exact reasoning I went through when I made my decision to go sleeved. That and the advantages the sleeved motor has.

Side note: stuck and broken studs are FUN! What a hoot. I wish I could spend my whole life working on them.

Long time since I posted here. I'm gearing up for some major work the last two weeks of this month.

I think I'm going to start a single thread and just post little blurbs with a link in the few places I have this listed across a few different boards and forums. I might press a familiy member into "secretary" service over Christmas vacation, to keep track of everything. This is going to be fun. Hopefully I don't ruin myself financially! Althought I've already paid most of the big bills, just the clutch kit and remaining balance to Chris are left.

First, today is my birthday, and guess what just arrived at the shipping dock. Thats right, 2700cc's of birthday cake! I sure know how to buy myself nice presents!

Also, its ironic Vitesse just announced his knock box and wasted spark systems. I got my "knock box" in the mail yesterday. $63 shipped new-in-box from someone that didn't need it...

http://www.viatrack.ca/

http://www.viatrack.ca/KnockMS/WiringMS.PDF

It was developed specifically on the Bosch knock sensor on our cars, although its adjustable to be used with a variety of sensors/engines.

Also got the Honda COP setup a week or two ago, which I'll probably run in wasted spark mode at least to begin with. I might end up running convential DIS coils with short plug wires too, thats still up in the air.

I head home tomorrow to start the wrech turning portion of the project. Goal is to have all of the mechanicals in place by Jan 1. Then I'll have the EMS to build/install, plus about 1000000000 other things to go back over.

Pictures of the new fancy motor will be up in a few days.

Still think that was a good pick up you made there.

I'd leave the twists on it. Something I'd rarely say, but that's a good look right there. You mentioned replacing them at one time.

I love the yellow calipers. The front has a nice look to her, very agressive. I like the 951 over the 3 series behind her. But what did you expect?

Wow, this thread is dusty. Well 80% of my 951 was delivered to my new place in Cali today. Theoretically, I could have the shortblock assembled into the longblock and be ready to "go to its home" around Christmas time. I just have to empty out one of the garage bays first. And oh yeah, figure out a way to get the engineless carcass 3k miles west for cheap.

Also, due to my new employment, it would be silly for anything other than a Garrett GT to find its place under the hood. Likely a GT3076R.

Hey Dan. I'll be in the area this weekend. I'd like to stop by to see you progress. I'll be in Manhattan beach. Let me know if you have time.

Cas,

I'm heading down to SD this weekend. Also, the car is still in PA. My auto repair to-do list looks something like this:

finish the steering repair on the 944 (I NEED a pinion assy from a power R&P, please help if you can!)
diagnose fix possible headgasket/head problem on the M3
prepare both 944 and 325 for sale
then I can finally ship the 951 out to start working on that

I also might build another 24 hours of lemons car in the next two months, along with possibly repairing/flipping my buddys rover disco for some cashola. So I'm not going to be making any real progress on this 951 project until ~'08 at best.
