I cross posted a similar message over on the turbo forum...

Joseph,
The $3k quote did not come close to the level of your rebuild. It was for rings/bearings/valve seals and a minimum amount of machining. Basically counting on the hope that the rest of the engine's sensors and components are still up to the task. The good thing about this shop I'll be using is that they also dismantle/restore 944s. They're almost a 944-only shop.
Also, the whole front end of the engine was just rebuilt 1000 miles ago, I have a receipt. So I'll still probably replace the timing belt itself for piece of mind, but the rest of it is all basically brand new. Also, I have a brand new Cup/Sport (4 spring) clutch disc to go on, picked it up for only $50. I'll have to decide whether or not I'll replace/upgrade the PP.
Finally, the engine has already been o-ringed, sporting a widefire headgasket (should I switch to an MLS/cometic?). So its very likely it has received semi-recent headwork. Obviously how much work I'll have to do will depend on what I find out from the rest of the receipts, a leakdown check, and visual inspection.

that's more reassuring if the front end was rebuilt. if you have the internals rebuilt and the head and front end have been redone, plus a new clutch, you should be good for a long time, assuming the turbo works fine.
you've got lots of desirable go fast goodies on that car....looks like an awesome track car. you'll be blowing by all but the fastest 911s

When you get the car running again you may want to get it on a dyno to see what the A/F looks like. Running a bigger turbo with more boost on just chips and no way to control the curve scares me. They probably had problems with the headgasket blowing seeing that it's had head work done and a Wide Fire added.
I would give John at Vitesse a call to get the best setup for this car.

por951turbo is right you deffinetely want to get it on a dyno. Make sure that it is a reputable dyno preferably a mustang. Do not run it hard until it has been checked for proper a/f. I almost blew mine up with a bad set of chips. Great car and good luck.

I'm a little too familiar with the issue of more boost and not enough fuel...

I call that photo "zero compression"
I've blown up my share of turbo motors to this point, I think I'm nearing the level a maturity needed to keep things under control. I bought that turbo dodge for the sole purpose of learning what it took to blow things up. Long blocks in good shape cost as little as $250! I've been through a few of them.
Yes, monitoring/controlling A/F ratios and boost levels will be top priority when I get the car running again. I've read and heard nothing but good things about John and his Vitesse products, but I'm looking to go to standalone engine management as soon as this winter, so I'll probably just verify that the current setup on the car is safely rich and keeping the boost dialed low enough until then.
Joseph, I dunno about blowing by 911s, at least starting out. I had a ride in a nearly stock 80's 911 on the track at a past DE. Only mods were some R compounds and 5pt harnesses. Non-turbo. My entire chest HURT when I got out of that car. It was intense.

Hey guys, I posted a wanted ad in that section of the forums for some of the upgraded parts I'll be looking to install.
Please take a look and see if you have anything I might need...

Hey Dan, sorry I didn't get back sooner. I looked through some of my back issues of Der Vorgander ( the PCA Potomac Region magazine , but can't seem to find the ad. I'm pretty sure it was the same car, unless it's got a twin.As I recall, he was asking exactly for $4700- Something to the effect of "letting it go for $4700.No real additional pertinent info.Good luck

D'oh! Whatever, I'm not going to dwell on the price. Unless the rebuild becomes outrageously expensive, I'll still have less in the car than I was planning to spend.
Thanks for looking for me! I'm heading down to PA to pick the car up this weekend. Hopefully I'll be able to get some contact info on the PPO, as that's the guy that actually did all the modifications. Plus I'll have all the receipts in my hands.
Drop the car at the shop, come back in a month to drive it home. I can't friggin wait.
