Is that so? I just turned 201,000 miles on mine (on the track at Nelson Ledges) and it has the original head gasket. In fact, I only replaced the rod bearings just after hitting 200,000 miles. Everything else, internally, is original. I am convinced these engines can last 500,000 miles before a major overhaul is in order. YMMV

I can believe the bottom end lasting that long, but my head gasket blew after 120. Maybe the age, type of driving, and number of heating and cooling cycles are what matters.

i've got 279K on original motor, only rod bearings done.
