Fire jumping is for the drunk and stupid. I am proud to be fire jumper. Beer and fire- what a great combination.

Talking

Thanks, guys, for all the nice words. It has been an honor to lead the pack all these years. I know you are having a great time, because I am too. Friday night watching the track films was awesome, out under the stars. All of the helpers chipping in let me enjoy the time a bit. Trav brought tubs and pop, did the web page and registration setup. Chip did tables, chairs, instruct, instruct classroom, **** knocker, supplied the vid projector, beer run, drove the camera car, (!!!!!) (see how LONG this list is??!!), Tom cooked the burgers and bacon, Andrew brought charcoal, Ed and Skip brought numbers, Skip did the cruise route and RAN THE DE, Brad did the Stoddard bonanza, JonH rigged my camera on a stick (with some help), Melissa (what a sweetie!!) did all of my registration, check in, t-shirt sales, liquid sunshine, and that other stuff, Dan J's tech, Jim sticking around to help clean up, etc. etc. etc. There are more of you than I can name. Thank you everyone who helped out. I have SO much help nowadays at these things.

Anyway, I have a LOT of great video. I've been reviewing it and I'm trying to decide what would make a good film. Should it be 2 minutes or 20? Should it be slashy MTV style or just segments of track footage? Music or exhaust? Transitions or snips? title pages? what should I say? Do I have a message? So many questions. I hope you don't expect the final cut for a month or so.

As for a future Fest, I have confidence something will happen, somewhere. I'm talking to a couple of interested parties about the future of the event. We'll have to just wait and see.

Finally, I just want to say it is because of the people who come to the event, that drive great distances and overcome hurdles to join us. The people make the event what it is, and you are a great crowd. The people who help out their brothers, share a spare part or lend a wrench, hitch a ride to the auto parts store, etc. I never heard a single gripe about track manners, driving behavior, etc. Well, there was that one with Rock but that is expected.

Anyway, thanks to you guys too.

I was at fest 06 but could not make the 1000 mile trip this year. Fest 06 was the highlight of my summer.
Also my 06 ****r is one of my favorite shirts. How can I get an 07 shirt?

Dan, go for the 20 minute version! And while I think most would prefer the sound of exhaust to music, if you do put anything in, make sure it's from the same era as our beloved cars! I know I'm not the mastermind behind the video process at all, but an idea you might consider for transitions that I thought would be cool is getting footage from anyone with an in-car camera and putting it before or after their chase with the SUV. Just a thought -- the video is going to be ridiculously awesome and I know everyone is pumped to see how it turns out!

It's huge and awsome. Some wind noise, but lots of cool shots. 234MB. I only got to use one short clip that was submitted, all the rest is my stuff. There was so much great footage I had problems keeping it down under 19:00. If someone wants this higher res, I'll sell a DVD T-shirt combo, say $30 shipped, and that DVD will get the bonus footage of the whole segment filmed with the boom cam. I probably won't be ready to ship DVDs for at least a week.

I had considered just selling the DVDs instead of a public release like this, but I'd rather the whole world (or at least those with a high speed line) get to see what we do. I'll get my sponsors and the Fest some exposure. If you need a smaller file, or like some other form of compression, let me know and I can make one.

I put the first public release of this vid here in this "gratitude" thread, as I am very thankful to those who participated, and helped make it possible. Go pop some popcorn while it downloads, it is a good one!!

Dan, you've outdone yourself -- it's good stuff and leaves nothing out of the story that is 944Fest 2007. Looks and sounds great!
