Default What's a venturi, what's it do, and should I delete it?

I've ordered a vacuum line kit for my '87 944 NA, and in my research to prepare I've come across some references to a venturi delete.

First of all, what is a venturi? I take it it's a line of some kind ... part of the vacuum system? But what's it do? And what does removing it get me?

Is it only in turbos?

Thanks a bunch ... trying to figure out whether to add it to the list.

How odd, I did a search and didn't come across that one.

Well, thanks!

That is a brilliant thread. So perfectly clear. Too bad Mamoo and I will have to waste money elsewhere on our NA's as we have no Venturi to delete.

Get rid of it. It's not so much the venturi that is the problem but the numerous rubber vacuum lines that are prone to crack with age causing difficult to diagnose vacuum leaks.

Well, that thread said it's only in turbos, of which mine ain't.

Not to worry, though, money that would've been spent on a venturi delete will be spent elsewhere.

The venturi doesn't bother me much. If you think about it. its really not that different after you delete it.

Dudes- Youre missing the point.

He has an N/a. He has no venturi. He doesnt need to delete something he doesnt have.

Maybe there was one. But the factory deleted it and its lack of presence is why NA motors are limited to 150HP.

I know the NAs don't have them I just said that because of daniels comment.

spencer, I don't think a vacuum line will make that much of a difference. Lets reverse a shop vac and hook up to a NA and see if it makes more power

i plan to do that actually. once i get around to turboing my NA i will delete all the factory vacuum lines and put a 3HP black and decker under the hood next to the wiper motor.

Did anyone see that post (I believe he was/is a member) that had a leaf blower forced induction set-up on his car (wasn't a 944). Spencer, that might be a good value mod.
