Anyone Have A Blank 944 Key Source?
Hey guys,
Everywhere I go nobody carries any blank keys for my 944. I would really like to find one that has no plastic cap whatsoever so I can hang it around my neck at school. Lol yeah it sounds stupid but that key for me is such a source of pride and I will be missing that car. (Three months and then four months away from her is hard)

If you just want a plain metal key, just go to any key making place and tell them to try the VW style key blank. If you say Porsche they get confused and say they don't have that, just say its a Porsche key but its the same style as a VW key.

are you looking for a blank porsche key or a generic blank?
if you go to the hardware store and tell them the key is the same as a vw key it wont be that hard for them to figure it out.

Problem with the VW keys is they are very soft, I used to have a couple for my 924 and I always managed to break them or bend them. Not sure where I heard this but Porsche blanks are actually SS and not the brass alloy that the VW ones are.

From what I can see the Porsche keys are SS. I bought a parts car with a VW key replacement and it has a brass core, but my oem round head porsche key is white metal throughout.

I found some steel keys with plastic heads on e-bay, they came from Australia. Not all key-cutters will grind them for you.
I had to replace my ignition switch and the new one was an Audi part, with the Audi rings on it.

I bought a set from this guy and it was great service.

My keys were so worn out that he was a able to make a set with the original cuts from a picture that I sent him.
Definitely need steel keys. You don't want a brass key to break in those locks. I tried a few from the local locksmiths and they were too soft.

I got a blank off eBay, plus one of the lighted key-heads. I did encounter a bit of noise getting it cut "sorry we can't cut that key," but when I told him to just go ahead and give it a try, it worked out just fine. He was so surprised at being wrong he didn't even charge me.
