Default is the sway bar suppose to be this hard to install??

weird, I just put my control arms etc all back together and the sway bar is the last thing to go back in (did my motor mounts and oil pan gasket) and I can't get it to go in right.

I followed haynes and attached it to the mount first then tried putting it into the conrtol arms but it won't go in properly and the bushings don't sit right in the control arm

after a lot of struggling and force I got one side to get into the control arm by removing it from the mount and putting it in teh control arm and then forcing it back onto the mount with a lot of pushing.

now the other side teh bushing didn't go in right (into the control arm) and I have to try and take it out and foce it in again.

am I doing something totally wrong here? I"ll pos ta pic tom.

anyone have a pic of how the sway bar is installed I was thinking maybe I got it in wrong but I highly doubt it.

thanks.

Try using a floor jack or equivalent to jack up the control arm to where it would rest if the tire was on the ground. It will line everything up.

What I do is drive the car up on ramps, and install the swaybar with the suspension compressed. There's enough room to work, and it goes on really easy. I bolt the ends on first so that the bushings sit right, then it pretty much just pushes up by hand to get the 4 mount bolts in.

in the second pic you can see I had to push it up with all my force because the sway bar is pulling down on the bushing.

now the left side the bushing won't go in fully into the control arm.

I'll put the wheel on and lower it and try again.

one more thing the new rebuilt control arm I got from rennbay has a different porsche part number on it than my old one . The part number is 951 341 149 01 and it and it says 85.

my old control arm part number is 95134114900 and it says 84 on it.

they look the same. My car is a 85.5 model.

reason why it was so hard to install- the wheels are off the ground!

Yup!!It sucks with the wheels off the ground. I have steel arms and I'd imagine it's harder than the aluminum to do with the wheels off the ground.

That's what I said up above....
Drive it up on ramps or up on a curb so you can get under it. With the suspension loaded it's a cinch

yeah looks like it fits right now.

I'm kind of worried about how low the car is too the ground....... not sure if it was always like this. The car has been up on stands for a few months now and now that it is back down I swear the front it too low to the ground...... but the rear is also pretty damn low and I did not touch the rear so maybe it's normal.
