Default Beautiful "one of a kind" turbo from craigslist, help?

I want to buy this 924 TURBO but it's a strange, highly modified one and I'd like everyone to take a look at it. Is the price good? What should I offer?
I talked to the guy on the phone, he says it's got some 40k miles and that he bought it caus' he "had to have it" and that it was stored for most of its years.

Also, what kind of TLC work would I need to do for a car that has been sitting so long?

My first post so I will introduce myself as well. I work for a Honda dealer, and I drive a 93 del sol. Something about porsche just intrigues me and so I have committed to buying one and pulling through all the repair work by myself.

I also saw another 924 S, much cheaper at 200k miles. Would it be unwise to purchase a porsche with so many miles? It has been a daily driver and they are asking 2400.

HERE STARTS THE AD---------->

I HAVE A ONE OF A KIND CAR BUILT IN 1981 BY AUTOMOTION AND CARLSON PORSCHE. THIS CAR HAS BEEN RACED AT SEARSPOINT, LAGUNA SECA, AND RIVERSIDE. IT HAS BEEN FEATURED IN ROAD & TRACK, CAR & DRIVER, AND PORSCHE PANORAMA. THIS CAR WAS TAKEN FROM THE SHOW ROOM FLOOR TO AUTOMOTIONS SHOP IN SANTA CLARA. EXCEPT FOR INTERIOR AND GLASS, EVERYTHING WAS STRIPED DOWN FOR MODIFICATIONS STARTING WITH:

"ENGINE"

- 235 HORSEPOWER
- BLUE PRINTED
- UPDATED TO 1982 SPECIFICATIONS
- LATE STYLE TURBO UNIT
- VARIABLE TURBO BOOST REGULATOR, ADJUSTABLE FROM DRIVER'S SEAT
- WATER INJECTION
- K&N AIR FILTER
- CUSTOM EXHAUST
- LIGHTENED FLYWHEEL
- TWIN OIL COOLER
- TURBO OILER

"BODY"

- CUSTOM GT STYLING
- GRAY PAINT
- MOMO PORSCHE DESIGN STEERING WHEEL
- EXTRA VDO GAUGES
- AUTOPOWER REMOVABLE ROLL BAR

"SUSPENSION"

- 32MM FRONT TURULAR SWAY BAR
- 22MM REAR SWAY BAR
- ADJUSTABLE REAR SPRING PLATES
- ADJUSTABLE FRONT SPRING PERCHES
- HEAVY DUTY FRONT & REAR SPRINGS
- BILSTEIN SPORT SHOCKS
- BBS 7" & 9" 1-PIECE WHEELS
- GOODYEAR NCT TIRES

"TRANSAXLE"

- SHORT GEAR RATIOS
- LIMITED SLIP

"BRAKES"

- FACTORY BIG BRAKE OPTION
- DRILLED ROTORS
- STAINLESS STEEL BRAKE LINES

THIS CAR HAS BEEN STORED FOR 20 YEARS. IT HAS 90% ON 16" YOKOHAMAS BUT THEY ARE OLD AND CRACKED. THIS CAR NEEDS TO BE DRIVEN AND GIVEN A LITTLE TLC AND YOU WILL HAVE A ONE OF A KIND CAR. $6,000.

From here on there are pictures, but the forum won't let me post them

Post a link to the add.
Oh, and 200k miles is nothing on a "well maintained" 944 or 924.

Pics? Link?

It sounds interesting. As long as all that work is documented. Stored for 20 years means its going to be quite a lot of work whatever, so as long as you're prepared for that

I'd like to see pics of that "custom" body.

If it's a 2.0L CIS injected 924 turbo the fuel system HATES sitting for long periods of time and you'll have a good time getting that cleaned out and getting it running properly. Other than that it's an interference motor so change out the timing belt ASAP. Keep in mind that the 924 and the 924S are two totally different cars, the 924 is a 2.0L audi/vw based motor and the 924S has a 2.5L porsche motor.

Buy Techron. You'll be buying a lot for a while until the CIS is cleaned out.

That thing has been for sale for a while, they need to post a picture of the engine so we can find out what it really is.

Very interesting and unusual. I agree, wanna see pics underhood, and dyno sheets to back up those numbers too! I'm not totally nuts about the styling, would've preferred it with the Carrera GT bodywork, but that's a personal taste thing.

What about an intercooler??? Surprising to see no mention, and no sign of a CGT cam cover style IC... maybe it has a 951/GTS style IC? Definitely an important part of making that much power reliably.

Otherwise the build sheet sounds quite good - though again, I'd want to see pics of some of the sharper details, like the brakes. If it can all be backed up with documentation, the price isn't way out of line.

It's definitely a rare/unusual car... and would be a lot more fun, but also drama, than the 924S - definitely a special-needs kid... the 924S would be far less exciting, but more manageable as a daily driver - all depends on what you're looking for.

needs the GT flares IMO.

+1 on fuel system cleanout..yikes...that gas will STINK, it might even have caramelized after 20 years.

On the plus side, he can probably varnish his workbench with what he gets out of the fuel system.
